Tanzanite (blue Zoisite) gem crystal
stock #19.1-869
Merelani, Umba Valley, Lelatama Mountains, Arusha Region
Manyara Region, Tanzania
3 x 1.1 x .6 CM (small miniature/ large thumbnail (toenail))
price: $750

An especially vibrant, sharp and clean gem crystal in impeccable condition. The intense blue hue on this is far better than the average and the crystal shows well the famed color shift to a strong royal purple as it is rotated. As the gem values for good Tanzanite is so high the cost of a good specimen with top color can be prohibitive. This is an exception, a small miniature with big visual impact for well under 4 figures. Many Tanzanites have been heat treated to enhance color, it is almost impossible to tell. This one has a hint of red color when viewed down the C axis from the termination. That is said to be a good indication that the color is fully natural.
Tanzanite Multi Color zoned crystal
stock #14.1-042
Merelani, Umba Valley, Lelatama Mountains, Arusha Region
Arusha Region, Tanzania
3.1 x 2.2 x.9 (small miniature/ large thumbnail (toenail))
price: $925

A sharp gemmy Tanzanite crystal with a strong color change and dramatic zoning. Top grade glassy luster and a lot prettier in person, this shows color changes from yellow to green in the top part, and blue, purple and red in the lower part that is hard to appreciate in photos. The overall condition is fine, there are some small contact rough spots on the backside that are not easy to see and are completely invisible from the display side. The front of the specimen is clean, sharp and undamaged. Far better in person and a great value for such a clean example!
Tanzanite (gem blue Zoisite)
stock #7AE-353
Merelani, Umba Valley, Lelatama Mountains, Arusha Region
Manyara Region, Tanzania
2.2 x 1.4 x 1.1 CM (thumbnail)
price: $350
Spring 2019

A Tanzanite crystal with excellent color change. This is well terminated, glassy deep blue to purple crystal in good condition. The tip of the termination is especially transparent and shows a nice blue "cloud" inside. The backside of the crystal shows a more complex area that has stepped faces and is likely a recrystallized contact. A nice specimen of the specie that is reasonably priced
Prehnite -well crystalized
stock #18.1-587
Merelani, Umba Valley, Lelatama Mountains, Arusha Region
Manyara Region, Tanzania
5.7 x 3.9 x 3.2 CM (cabinet)
price: $300
Dec 2018

Radiating cluster of fine terminated Prehnite crystals from the famed Merelani Hills best known for its Tanzanite. In fine condition by naked eye, some very minor bruising is seen with magnification, but overall the visual impression is pristine. This is also a color-changing Prehnite and can look green to a gray-blue depending on the light source. Some of the crystals also show slight rotation or twisting like some of the classic European Alpine specimens.
Diopside on Graphite
stock #17.1-885
Merelani, Umba Valley, Lelatama Mountains, Arusha Region
Manyara Region, Tanzania
2.9 x 2.2 x 2.3 CM (small miniature/ large thumbnail (toenail))
price: $390
Pre Holiday 2017

The gem Diopside crystals from Merlani are modern classics and can have brilliant form as seen here. The color is a yellow to pale greenish hue and the crystals are complete all around, undamaged and statuesque. The contrast with the Graphite adds a nice balance and the complex modified terminations are very distinctive. Good luster with gem clear areas but more translucent than transparent overall.
Andradite v. Demantoid with Quartz and Diopside
stock #13.1-372
Merelani, Umba Valley, Lelatama Mountains, Arusha Region
Arusha Region, Tanzania
5.1 x 3.1 x 2.8 CM (small cabinet/ large miniature)
price: $485
Winter 2016-17

A really cute, bright specimen covered in sharp, gem grade Demantoid Garnets offset by a Quartz crystal. Finds of these Garnets have been sporadic and very few have had this sculptural form, grown on a Diopside base. The garnets fully cover the matrix on all sides, the smallest are a yellow color and the largest as seen are the Demantoid green. In great condition, damage-free and very lustrous, this is much better in person.
Scapolite- gem crystal with
stock #16.1-198
Morogoro, Uluguru Mountains
Morogoro, Tanzania
3.1 x 1.6 x 1.3 CM (small miniature/ large thumbnail (toenail))
price: $400
Winter 2016-17

A clear, mostly colorless terminated crystal with a vibrant orange core that gives the entire crystal a rich color. The cats eye effect is very strong and has a distinct "shimmer". In very good condition, with very minor contacts and no eye visible damage or chips. Scapolite is a common mineral, but good gem grade is quite rare, this locality has produced very few fine pieces like this one. A good value.
Diopside on Graphite
stock #16.1-155
Merelani, Umba Valley, Lelatama Mountains, Arusha Region
Arusha Region, Tanzania
3.6 x 2.4 x 3.4 CM (small miniature/ large thumbnail (toenail))
price: $1100
Winter 2016-17

Small yet with incredible impact and esthetics. The combination of the mint green Diopside gem clear crystals perched on bladed Graphite crystals is impressive. In fine condition, there are unidentified hairlike crystals as well best seen with magnification. A great example of this highly sought after combination, this looks great from all sides.
