Beryl var. Emerald
stock #ARET 8.2-387
Coscuez Mine
Boyaca, Colombia
6.2 x 4.8 CM (small cabinet/ large miniature)
price: $3400
Pre Tucson

Classic Colombian Emerald crystal on matrix. Excellent transparency, the crystal is fairly thick, glassy with basal termination. The color is a very rich green but not quite the top intense color which is of course far more expensive. Sits well and stands out in any sort of display. It is very hard to find sizable crystals on matrix that have not been repaired, faked or otherwise unnatural. This one is fully natural and not enhanced. The crystal is 2.2 x 1.7 CM and is nicely balanced on the matrix. Good condition, there are micro edge chips seen with loupe but no really bad damage, the "bottom end" of the crystal is contacted and does not show a clear termination. This quality is now very hard to get in Colombia at any reasonable price if at all. If this was mined today this would be treated, infused, cut and sold in the gem market. It would also be a lot more expensive!

Quartz - optically clear
stock #20.1-881
Penas Blancas, San Pablo de Borbur
Boyaca, Colombia
5.3 x 3.7 x 2.2 CM (small cabinet/ large miniature)
price: $380
new year 2021

Some of the world's clearest and most perfect Quartz has come from the finds in the ridge above the Peñas Blancas Emerald Mines in Boyacá, Colombia. This is an incredibly clean highly lustrous example, one of a small carefully selected suite we obtained at the mine. The luster is brilliant and almost impossible to see in a photograph. This zone has recently produced a lot of good to fine Quartz but very close exam finds that there are very few truly perfect examples, nearly all have at least some chips or rough spots on terminations. This is a remarkably limpid and flawless piece that can act as a prism to make rainbows. Nothing like the average material from here, this is textbook perfect. As is sometimes seen at this locale this piece has some extra faces in corners adding some nice modifications.

SOLD Quartz included by Epidote
stock #SOLD 20.1-880
Cisneros, Mun. de Buenaventura
Valle del Cauca, Colombia
4.1 x 3.3 x 2.1 (miniature)
price: $150
new year 2021

A light greenish Quartz that is slightly milky is surrounded by and included with slender Epidote crystals. From a remote locality in the Gold mining areas of the Cauca Valley of Colombia, these greenish Quartz and Epidote have trickled out for several years, never many pieces and usually badly damaged. This is from a small lot we obtained in Colombia in 2018 and is far better than usual. The front or display side offers a large window into the Quartz where the Epidote are like a forest or garden scene. The backside has a clean geometric contact and the condition is overall very good, strong magnification does show some very tiny bruises that are not visible by naked eye, for one of these remarkable crystals this as close to perfect as we have seen. A very different and attractive small Quartz.

SOLD Beryl var. Emerald
stock #SOLD 20.1-301-(LW1367)
Muzo Mine, Muzo, Municipio de Muzo
Boyaca, Colombia
1.2 x 1.1 x .8 CM (thumbnail)
price: $0
new year 2021

A single Emerald from the famed Muzo Mine, this is a gemmy hexagonal crystal with good green color. The crystal has some breakage mostly on the back and lower areas, some scuffs as well as a few inclusions. That said, it is a terminated crystal and a genuine transparent Emerald. Perfection in Emeralds is crazy rare and insanely expensive. This is a cute though not perfect thumbnail at 9.4 carats and is priced below the usual rate for this grade of rough.

Fluorite - etched cube with
stock #18.1-540
Penas Blancas, San Pablo de Borbur
Boyaca, Colombia
3.4 x 2.3 x 1.6 CM (small miniature/ large thumbnail (toenail))
price: $420

A perfectly etched cubic Fluorite with the unique emerald green corners of Penas Blancas. This rare zoning has now been attributed to the same Chromium that colored the world class Emeralds found just a few hundred meters lower on this mountain. This is transparent and mostly colorless like an ice cube with complex crystallized. etched surfaces on all sides. There is no damage or chipping A very fine example that is choice, complete and shows the selective color in the corners perfectly.

Quartz -Yellow Humboldtine inclusions
stock #18.1-629
Cabiche, Municipio de Quípama
Boyaca, Colombia
7.3 x 6.5 x 5.5 CM (cabinet)
price: $950

An incredible new find of Quartz with bright yellow tips that are now known to be inclusions of Humboldtine. We obtain this specimen and a few others in Colombia just over two years ago but the analysis was not validated until recently. This specimen is a radiating group of Quartz crystals on a small shard of matrix, and is in fine condition. The find has made big news in the mineral world and now seems to be fully exhausted, there were very few matrix specimens and most of these were very quickly sold. This specimen has misplaced and not put in our show display, it is one of the few left and we think maybe the only one on the web. Choice and obviously a very rare Quartz.

Quartz- ultra clear

Penas Blancas, San Pablo de Borbur

From the incredible finds at Penas Blancas come some of the worlds clearest Quartz. Remarkable optical-grade clarity, fine condition and with a few edge modifications;(extra faces). The striations are very distinct and add a prismatic effect from some angles. We have had been to visit these prospects and mines, selected top specimens and are pleased to offer these fantastic prisms. Much more transparent in person.

Beryl var. Emerald
stock #8.1-389
Muzo Mining District
Boyaca, Colombia
2.3 x 1.8 x 1.4 CM (thumbnail)
price: $1950
Late Summer 2018

A single fat gem crystal with excellent color, very sharp edges, lustrous faces and fine display impact. 8.9 Grams a few inclusions but with good transparency, this was mined in 2007. A small area of attached shale on the backside/bottom is the only matrix, this is all Beryl. It has gotten very uncommon to find such good single gem crystals in Colombia. Newer methods of treatment, filling and enhancement means these can be consumed by gem cutters for much more expensive jewelry. In excellent condition and better in person.
