Selenite (gemmy golden)
stock #20.1-123
Salinas de Otuma, Otuma Village, Paracas, Pisco, Pisco Province
Ica, Peru
4.3 x 3.3 x 2.4 CM (miniature)
price: $120
Spring 2020

The yellow to orange "golden" Selenites from Ica were rather common at mineral shows 20 years ago. There have not been new finds for some time and good, undamaged examples are now quite scarce. These still represent a very good value for a colorful, display quality specimen. This piece is from a small lot that has been in storage since the mid seventies. Sharp, glassy transparent Selenite 2.5 CM tall stands on a base of small crystals. The main crystal shows well the "duckbill" twin habit.

Selenite (gemmy golden)
stock #20.1-122
Salinas de Otuma, Otuma Village, Paracas, Pisco, Pisco Province
Ica, Peru
5.8 x 3.4 x 3.3 CM (cabinet)
price: $150
Spring 2020

The yellow to orange "golden" Selenites from Ica were rather common at mineral shows 20 years ago. There have not been new finds for some time and good, undamaged examples are now quite scarce. These still represent a very good value for a colorful, display quality specimen. Sharp, glassy transparent Selenite blades are up to 2.6 CM long. A small amount of typical soft matrix is present as a support for the crystals.

Rhodochrosite- scalenohedral form crystals
stock #10.1-193
Uchucchacua Mine, Oyon Province
Lima Department, Peru
6.3 x 4.2 x 3.4 CM (cabinet)
price: $360

Sharp and gemmy red Rhodochrosite crystals on a contrasting matrix. The crystals are mostly formed as Scalenohedral but take a few other forms as well. Uchucchacua is one of the worlds best Rhodo localities for Scalenohedrons, but not as well known (or expensive) as South Africa. Several crystals are partly coated with a thin crust of what seems to be Calcite and makes a nice contrast.

Ferro-Axinite
stock #19.1-795
Raipa Mine, Aija Province
Ancash Department, Peru
7.7 x 3.9 x 3.3 CM (cabinet)
price: $740

Superb cluster of classic form Axinite crystals with no matrix at all. The largest crystal here is about 6 CM long and the condition of all is excellent, with no damage. These are translucent with a few areas of transparency and the luster is very glassy. The purplish-brown color is distinctive from this find and this is an excellent esthetic cluster with many perfect, choice crystals in all directions. This was a large and important discovery which has provided some excellent quality pieces that were relatively affordable. Excellent value.

Rhodochrosite - elongated scalenohedral habit
stock #AX-10-930
Uchucchacua Mine, Oyon Province
Lima Department, Peru
4.8 x 2.3 x 1.6 CM (miniature)
price: $490

Gem clear, bright and lustrous Rhodochrosite crystals from the now classic Uchucchacua Mine in Peru. The main crystal on the matrix is just over 2 CM long and there are several other smaller crystals as well. Protected in a narrow vug the main crystal is quite perfect and damage free. While Rhodochrosite can be found all over the world there are no more than 3 places that have ever produced crystals of this size, quality and habit. Of those localities Uchucchuacua is the only place that still is an occasional producer. Well beyond average quality yet still relatively affordable for a fine Rhodo.

Rhodochrosite -Scalenohedral crystals
stock #12.1-273
Uchucchacua Mine, Oyon Province
Lima Department, Peru
4.2 x 4.1 x 2.8 CM (miniature)
price: $650
Spring 2019

Sizable doubly terminated Rhodochrosite crystals sitting on contrasting matrix. These are the "fat Scalenohedral" habit from Uchucchacua and are translucent to transparent with the largest crystal 2.1 CM. The presenting face of the specimen looks in very good undamaged condition but the crystals do have contacts and chipping on the backs and sides so this is not for perfectionists. Depending on the display angle this can look quite perfect however. The crystals have some faces showing complex striations but others are smooth and lustrous. A great value for the size, color and form.

Barite on Dolomite and Rhodochrosite
stock #AX-12-503
Cerro Warihuyn - Miraflores, Huamalies Prov.
Huanuco Department, Peru
10.9 x 7.9 x 6.4 CM (cabinet)
price: $725

A fine cabinet specimen that is far beyond the average Barite from Cerro Warihuyn. The Barite is a smoky golden color, very clear and mostly all transparent. The matrix is a mix of Dolomite and Rhodochrosite which adds a nice pink contrast. A few tiny dark Sulphide crystals are noted too, but they are minor in the composition. The free standing Barites are very fine for this important locality, 4.7 CM across with nice zoning. No damage to note except a small chip on the backside of the Barite that is not visible from any logical display angle. The presentation side is in perfect condition. Far better in person. This locale had produced lots of Barite and is world renown for them, this specimen is exceptional compared to the vast majority of the find.

Pyrargyrite on Manganoan Calcite
stock #AX-10-796
Pachapaqui District, Bolognesi Province
Ancash Department, Peru
7 x 4.9 x 4.2 CM (cabinet)
price: $400

Pyrargyrite crystals in small clusters and individuals are scattered on a pink Manganoan Calcite matrix. Individual crystals are up to 7MM. Some of the edge crystals have some chipping but the center portion is pristine. A few of the small clusters have the "raspberry" form and are hollow crystal aggregates best appreciated with magnification. A nice ruby Silver specimen that has a nice colored micro crystalline matrix as a contrast.
