Scheelite- on recrystallized Quartz with Fluorite.
stock #Alec 12-404
Yaogangxian Mine, Yizhang County
Hunan Province, China
7.6 x 5.5 x 1.3 CM (cabinet)
price: $290
Spring 2017

A very unusual Yaogangxian specimen with the matrix a flattened Quartz shard that has recrystallized with one face coated with these clear Scheelites, the opposite side is dusted with clear tiny Fluorites. In fine condition, the Scheelites are bright and glassy, micro pyrites are seen on some Scheelite crystals. Formerly in the Shields Flynn collection, this is quite choice (and certainly not typical) for this famed locale. Attractive.
Fluorite on Quartz and Muscovite
stock #6.2-849
Yaogangxian Mine, Yizhang County
Hunan Province, China
3.9 x 2.7 x 2.3 CM (small miniature/ large thumbnail (toenail))
price: $210
Spring 2017

A small bit of perfection, this is a transparent pale blue cube with purple core phantom perched on a small matrix of Quartz. Classic Yaogangxian Fluorite from finds of 2003 vintage, The condition is flawless. The Fluorite is sharp and more transparent than the photos show. This could be trimmed to thumbnail size for competition but we like it as is. Choice.
Pyrrhotite replaced by Pyrite and or Chalcopyrite
stock #6.2-566
Yaogangxian Mine, Yizhang County
Hunan Province, China
5.5 x 4.2 x 3.3 CM (cabinet)
price: $120
Spring 2017

An oddity from the great Yaoganxian mine, sharp rosettes of Pyrhotite (rare at this locale) that are coated by secondary Sulphides and associated with Chalcopyrite and Pyrite. The Pyrrhotite has been partly or entirely replaced by what is likely pyrite but could also be Chalcopyrite. Both species are on the speciems matrix. Delicate and well formed this was part of a small find we obtained at the mine in 2003. I have not seen these since then. Uncommon and a nice example for any good Yaogangxian suite.
SOLD Cassiterite with Arsenopyrite and Muscovite -unusual locale
stock #SOLD Alec-12-135
Yaogangxian Mine, Yizhang County
Hunan Province, China
3.6 x 3.5 x 2 CM (miniature)
price: $0
Winter 2016-17

A rare example of a Yaoganxian Cassiterite that is well crystallized. One of the most prolific mineral mines on Earth, Yaoganxian has produced many fine specimens of many species, but almost no Cassiterite. This small specimen is the best example we have seen. There are a few small Arsenopyrite crystals as well and this has some well defined twins. Compared with the world class Cassiterites from the famed Pingwu and Ximeng mines this is a modest piece, but for a Yaoganxian suite this is a killer.
Ferberite & Dolomite
stock #10.1-024
Yaogangxian Mine, Yizhang County
Hunan Province, China
5.3 x 3.3 x 3.8 cm (cabinet)
price: $250
Winter 2016-17

Lustrous black Ferberite crystals with sharp terminations contrast with the snow white Dolomite crystals. A nicely composed cluster that looks great from many angles. All the main crystals are in fine condition, there is a contact on one lower side edge that is not seen on display.
Bismuthinite inside Fluorite on Arsenopyrite
stock #Alec-15-243
Yaogangxian Mine, Yizhang County
Hunan Province, China
4.2 x 3.2 x 2.5 CM (miniature)
price: $285
Fall 2015

A attractive miniature with a prominent Fluorite cube that is densely filled with needles, hairs and curls of metallic Bismuthinite. Since the Fluorite rests on a well crystallized cluster of Arsenopyrite, the overall contrast and esthetic structure is excellent. As with many fine Yaogangxian specimens, there are many associated species, this has Sphalerite, Stannite and Quartz. Better in person, this is an older specimen from the Shields Flynn collection.
Scheelite (milky white crystals) on Fluorite
stock #17.1-AX-29-038
Yaogangxian Mine, Yizhang County
Hunan Province, China
4.4 x 3.2 x 3 CM (miniature)
price: $675
May 2015

A sparkling bright purple matrix is the host for lustrous white Scheelites to 1.5 CM in size. An unusual combination (to me at least) from Yaoganxian, this is in fine condition. A few Dolomite crystals are sprinkled on the Scheelites and on the back of the matrix. Several options for display angle, the color is a little more vivid in person.
Fluorite -zoned
stock #14.1-283
Yaogangxian Mine, Yizhang County
Hunan Province, China
9 x 8.1 x 5.7 CM (cabinet)
price: $1250
Post Tucson 2015

Outstanding deep grape purple color in large gem-clear phantomed crystals. The contrasting greenish Muscovite matrix presents the Fluorites as very three dimensional. The crystals reach over 4.4 CM which is very large for this type, but they still have fine color. In exceptional, undamaged condition, this is a strong, eyecatching display piece. Nothing of this quality has come from Yaoganxian for a few years, these are now considered modern classics and make a fine esthetic addition to any good Fluorite or Chinese suite.
