Scheelite on Quartz with Calcite, Cassiterite etc
stock #6.2-896
Yaogangxian Mine, Yizhang County, Chenzhou Pref.
Hunan Province, China
7.8 x 6.3 x 3.1 CM (cabinet)
price: $440
Spring 2014

If you know or collect Yaogangxian, you can see this is a VERY fine Scheelite multi-specie piece! In excellent undamaged condition, this is densely packed with bright, lustrous and transparent/translucent Scheelites with honey brown color. This quality and esthetic is a rare for the locality. We selected this piece at the mine in 2006. There is nothing like this on the market now. Yaogangxian is the most famous and significant locality in China for collectors. Good Scheelite was always rare from there, this one is exceptional and the mine is now closed.
Hubnerite (exceptional, largest from Yaogangxian!) on Quartz with Helvite
stock #8.1-098
Yaogangxian Mine, Yizhang County, Chenzhou Pref.
Hunan Province, China
12 x 9.5 CM (cabinet)
price: $3600

An important Chinese specimen and a rarity, this Hubnerite is from the one time small find at Yaogangxian in 1998. It seems these are also the largest Hubnerite crystals known from China, at 9.4 CM! Ferberite (the analog) is famous from Yaogangxian, it has produced some of the worlds best. However, verified Hubnerite is only known in a few specimens. The crystals here are attractively perched on a long Quartz prism and this displays well from either side. The color is a lustrous black to a deep brownish-red. Strong lighting shows red translucence on thin edges of the crystals as is typical for Hubnerite. The crystals are complete, somewhat jagged showing parallel growth with full terminations. A dusting of micro Helvites (not confirmed) add a color contrast. Remarkably this specimen has no noticeable damage on the delicate Hubnerite crystals. For any comprehensive Chinese collection or a Yaogangxian suite, this is something really special!
Fluorite on Muscovite with Quartz
stock #11.1-W29
Yaogangxian Mine, Yizhang County, Chenzhou Pref.
Hunan Province, China
8.5 x 6.1 CM (cabinet)
price: $1600

There are thousands of Fluorites from the great Yaogangxian Mine, but very few are of this caliber. Incredible quality for the size and perfection. A single 4 CM glass clear, undamaged zoned cube sits on a 3 dimensional matrix perfectly. Top quality esthetics far better in person! This stands out from the rest and while it is a bit more pricey than average specimens, this quality is almost impossible to find in China today. The only comparable specimen I saw recently at a show was well over twice this price!
Arsenopyrite (exceptionally large crystals)
stock #7 -CNA-396
Yaogangxian Mine, Yizhang County, Chenzhou Pref.
Hunan Province, China
7.5 x 6.2 CM (cabinet)
price: $1200

Simply put, this is a huge, gleaming, esthetic and fine Arsenopyrite from Yaogangxian. Arsenopyrite is not rare, but great form with huge, undamaged crystals are. The largest here is 6.3 CM and doubly terminated. Brilliant luster, nice architecture, impressive display face and outstanding for the species. I have never seen a better example for sale from any locality. Yaogangxian Arsenopyrites rank with the best, I think eclipsing Panasqueira, Cornwall and Peru. This specimen is 2002 vintage. Contacting and removal damage is limited to the rear base area, not visible on display. Although this might seem expensive for a common, metallic mineral, this is an incredible value for a top display piece!
Ferberite with Fluorite and Muscovite
stock #6.2-883
Yaogangxian Mine, Yizhang County, Chenzhou Pref.
Hunan Province, China
5.8 x 3.6 CM (small cabinet/ large miniature)
price: $450

A superb and esthetic Yaogangxian combo piece! The ferberites are razor sharp, super lustrous and undamaged perfectly perched on gemmy glass-like purple fluorite and balls of well crystallized Muscovite. Other than a corner cleave on one fluorite on the outer edge of the right side, this is pristine. For such delicate and slender crystals this is a rarity and certainly of competition caliber. The Ferberite looks a lot like more Azurite at a glance it is so lustrous with the uncommon tabular habit.
HOLD Bournonite on Quartz and Fluorite
stock #HOLD 6.2-997
Yaogangxian Mine, Yizhang County, Chenzhou Pref.
Hunan Province, China
8.5 x 7 CM (cabinet)
price: $1950

A very large, lustrous cogwheel type Bournonite (over 5 CM across) that is complete sitting on Fluorite and Quartz crystals one of which penetrates the Bournonite. A exceptional example from Yaogangxian, recognized as the world's best location for this specie. Some of the Fluorite and Quartz have damage especially at the edges of the piece, but overall the condition is superb. This sits upright and perfectly without assistance, and the esthetics are top shelf. Given the fragility of large Bournonite, the quality and completeness of this crystal is even more remarkable. Add the Fluorite for a color accent (and an uncommon association) the whole is highly desirable.
Bournonite on Fluorite with Quartz, Boulangerite etc.
stock #6.2-491
Yaogangxian Mine, Yizhang County, Chenzhou Pref.
Hunan Province, China
8.3 X 4.7 CM (cabinet)
price: $400

A wonderful esthetic for a dark mineral like Bournonite is to be displayed on on colorful matix, and this piece does that well. Several sharp, prismatic and lustrous silvery crystals of Bournonite are well placed on a sparkling purple fluorite and quartz mixture. A few matted hairs of Boulangerite are in evidence as well. There is one Bournonite that is broken off (not very distracting tho) all the rest are quite clean by eye and only show some edge chips at 10X magnification. A very good matrix Yaoganxian piece and a good value.
Bournonite
stock #6.2-893
Yaogangxian Mine, Yizhang County, Chenzhou Pref.
Hunan Province, China
3.5x3 CM (small miniature)
price: $160

Very bright, metalic and with fine luster, this bournonite miniature shows excellent form with a pleasing contast to the matrix. Much better than usual condition for this delicate, brittle mineral, however there is some chipping and contacting like all of these have. The main crystal shows a fantastic cogswheel form. Since well crystalized Bournonite is very uncommon, the better Chinese examples are already becoming classics. For now, this is a bargain!
