Orford Nickel Mine, Brompton Lake, Sherbrooke
Quebec, Canada
5 x 1.6 x .8 CM (miniature)

Exceptional, perfect, partly gemmy and with glassy luster this is a great Orford Diopside. There were larger crystals found years ago but few were so well defined. This has the desirable honey yellow color and looks better in person. A modern classic with top quality, perfectly undamaged and looks fine from every angle.
Diopside- Chromian green with Grossular
stock #18.1-741
Orford Nickel Mine, Brompton Lake, Sherbrooke
Quebec, Canada
5.9 x 4.4 x 4.2 CM (cabinet)
price: $375
Spring 2019

The so called Chromian Diopsides from the famed Orford Nickel mine are quite prized. We are told that the color may be due to Nickel and not Chrome but either way these are very attractive and uncommon. This one has unusually fine apple green hue. The largest crystal is 1.7 CM and all are gemmy with very glassy luster. Normally the larger crystals are opaque, and a yellowish to grey color. Such bright green clear crystals are usually only microscopic. Tiny deep green Grossular are also present as are Calcite crystals. The tiny crystals add a lot of sparkle in person.
Diopside -large fine single crystal
stock #8AE-077A
Orford Nickel Mine, Brompton Lake, Sherbrooke
Quebec, Canada
7.1 x 2 x 1 CM (cabinet)
price: $450
Spring update

A very big blocky Diopside crystal that is a perfectly formed, has a good color and some translucence. Ex Steve Chamberlain, A. Edwards, and Canning collections, this is remarkably perfect, undamaged and about as clean as can be. Several faces show complex growth patters and have a nice silky luster. Choice for the specie and excellent for the locale.
Diopside with Grossular, intense green
stock #15.1-459
Orford Nickel Mine, Brompton Lake, Sherbrooke
Quebec, Canada
6 x 5.8 x 3.8 CM (cabinet)
price: $780
Pre Holiday 2017

Bright green Diopside with emerald green micro Grossular in an esthetic cluster from the famed Orford Mines. The Orford Nickle mines produced some excellent Diopside crystals but mostly grey or pale green in color. These very bright green crystals were often called "Chromian" for the color, but now are considered to be colored by Nickle instead. No matter the source these are an especially rich green and this specimen has many well formed, sharp and esthetic prisms to 1.5 CM tall. Very attractive and quite rare.
