Perfectly formed Chamosite pseudo having the shape of the original Garnet (probably Almandine). Unlike most from this classic find, this is a matrix specimen, and the crystal is not rounded but is very sharp. These were first collected over 130 years ago (at that time called Aphrosiderite, a discredited name) and still are sometimes found, but rarely of good quality. A nice affordable classic pseudomorph.
A big, sharp and fine example of the "aphrosiderite" pseudomorph of Garnet by a Chlorite mineral. These old classics from Michigan are usually not this good, this crystal has every face complete and is a the most perfect example I have handled, and at nearly 3 inches, that is remarkable. Nice black to greenish blue patina too. An old Wards label is included.
