Spessartine on Galena
stock #19.1-857
Broken Hill, Yancowinna County
New South Wales, Australia
5 x 4.3 x 3.4 CM (cabinet)
price: $3200

A killer bright red well formed Spessartine Garnet perched on classic Galena matrix from Broken Hill. The Garnet is nearly 2.5 CM across the long dimension, which is huge for this locale and the color, luster and condition are superb. No damage or repairs, the back of the Garnet has a clean contact but is complete and with no chipping even under 30X magnification. Sits well for display without props, this is far better in person. This almost certainly came from the North mine but the old labels are not specific, so we are listing it as simply "Broken Hil"
Bustamite on Calcite
stock #19.1-340
Broken Hill, Yancowinna County
New South Wales, Australia
3.4 x 2.3 x 2.2 CM (small miniature/ large thumbnail (toenail))
price: $240

A nice old Broken Hill specimen with a complete Bustamite crystal nicely perched on matrix. Previously labeled as Rhodonite this was a common mistake seen on early labels. This crystal is partly color zoned, has some translucence and has the classic slightly rounded edges. The Bustamite is doubly terminated and the matrix of Calcite is strongly fluorescent.
Anglesite pseudo after Cerussite -Classic
stock #15.1-477
Broken Hill, Yancowinna County
New South Wales, Australia
4.3 x 3.1 x 2.5 CM (miniature)
price: $350
Worldwide mix summer

A rare and elegant pseudomorph, the twinned crystals of Cerussite have been fully replaced by Anglesite and the outer surface is covered on all sides by sharp small Anglesites. The specimen is in exceptional condition and is a floater, with no attachment point, crystallized all around. These Pseudomorphs were found long ago in the early upper mine workings. This choice example is remarkable for perfection and classic form, a rarity almost never available.
Pyromorphite
stock #15.1-565
Broken Hill, Yancowinna County
New South Wales, Australia
4.3 x 3.2 x 2.8 CM (miniature)
price: $160
Fall 2015

Transparent Pyromorphite crystals scattered on a contrasting dark matrix from Broken Hill. The dark matrix is often labeled as Coronadite but this is not confirmed in this specimen. Most crystals are pristine but some damaged or broken prisms are seen with magnification. Pyros about 5mm, bright green-yellow hue from a classic locale.
Cerussite reticulated
stock #15.1-547
Broken Hill, Yancowinna County
New South Wales, Australia
5.9 x 3.1 x 1.3 CM (cabinet)
price: $160
Fall 2015

A reticulated Cerussite from Broken Hill that has a small bit of green color included in some areas. Attractive and a bit different for the locale, this is not perfect on the outer edges but the main snowflake areas are quite fine.
Rhodonite (gemmy crystals) on Galena
stock #13.1-317
Broken Hill, Yancowinna County
New South Wales, Australia
3.1 x 2 x 1.9 CM (small miniature/ large thumbnail (toenail))
price: $850

A single, brilliant dark red gemmy Rhodonite crystal is exposed in a mass of silvery Galena. The Rhodonite is 2.3 CM across, and has very bright luster. Typical crude but complete edges are undamaged. This is the classic form for Broken hill Rhodonite, but the gemmyness, size and deep color are far better than average.
Rhodonite (doubly terminated crystal included by Galena)
stock #13.1-314
Broken Hill, Yancowinna County
New South Wales, Australia
4.6 x 3.3 x 2.9 CM (miniature)
price: $450
Spring 2014

An intense red crystal 3 CM across sits on a matrix of Galena. Well exposed, typically rounded and crude but with distinct form with many areas of transparency. The front side displays well with no noticeable damage, there is cleaving on the backside that is not visible. The galena forms some selective coatings and inclusions as is usual for the locality, this adds a nice contrast. Better in person, a good example from this classic locale, likely mined over 60 years ago. Now quite rare or expensive on the market.
Rhodonite (large single crystal) with Galena
stock #8- AUS-1049
Broken Hill, Yancowinna County
New South Wales, Australia
5.5 x 2.7 CM (small cabinet/ large miniature)
price: $1400

Ex Fred Pough and G. Elling collections. A big, complete, dark red crystal in pristine condition. Translucent with gemmy areas, the Rhomb has the classic association of bright silvery galena on all faces. A classic locale, the best of Broken Hill Rhodonite was unrivaled until the more recent finds in Peru. This is far better than average and with simply super esthetics. These are rarely found on the market today in sizes larger than thumbnails, this is exceptional.
