Plumbogummite and Mimetite, Pyromorphite
stock #18-AX-14B-130
Dry Gill Mine, Caldbeck Fells
Cumberland, Cumbria, England
4.4 x 2.2 x 2.2 CM (miniature)
price: $400

A very old or "vintage" specimen, previous label notes it to have been collected 1830-40 era. The labels call the associated crystals Mimetite although it looks to me like the larger greener ones are Pyromorphite with some yellow Mimetites as a second generation. This specimen is pictured on Mindat and it is labeled Pyromorphite there. Ex Ben Shumer collection, this is a small but pretty and colorful miniature. Under good magnification it is quite incredible, delicate and the blue Plumbo balls sparkle. Quite three dimensional, a nice classic specimen from this famed locale. Before the great Chinese Plumbogummites were found recently. English pieces (from Roughton Gill and Dry Gill) were the worlds best, prized in top collections all over the world. Despite the beauty of new Chinese pieces these old English specimens are still very special and quite different too. This mine was last worked in 1869, and was one of the worlds most important mineral localities.

Spring update

A nice small example of the Campylite habit of Mimetite that is so famed from Dry Gill. This ancient (it was already old in the 17th century) locality once was world renowned, every serious collection had specimens from here. Now closed for many years it is a true classic locale. Good luster, a nice Botryoidal form, and a light orange to green color. The display side is in fine condition, it is contacted on the back.
Mimetite var. Campylite on Quartz
stock #16.1-1272
Dry Gill Mine, Caldbeck Fells
Cumberland, Cumbria, England
6.9 x 6.2 x 4.5 CM (cabinet)
price: $80
Spring 2017

An attractive, clean and undamaged cluster of curved crystals of Mimetite resting on Milky Quartz crystals. This cluster has the classic color and habit of Campylite which while not a recognized specie is still very distinctive. Good contrast and presentation.
Mimetite Var Campylite (rare chain crystal)
stock #11.1-W04
Dry Gill Mine, Caldbeck Fells
Cumbria, England
4.1 x 2.6 CM (miniature)
price: $380

A rare variation of the classic British Campylite from Dry Gill, this small, esthetic piece features a curved chain of mimetite crystals. Lustrous and in excellent condition damagewise, the chain has a central hollow canal running its length. The matrix also hosts small botroidal crystals of yellow, green and orange mimetite. A fine small miniature!
