Malachite- Stalactititic "cauliflower"
stock # Alec 24-096
Luishia Mine, Katanga Province
Democratic Republic of Congo (Zaire)
5.3 x 4 x 1.5 CM (small cabinet/ large miniature)
Unusual form, attractive and elegant small cabinet specimen of Malachite from the Congo. Malachite is a rather common mineral and often not given very much respect since it is so abundant. It takes a very good specimen to get noticed. The copper belt of the Congo has yielded some of the most beautiful Malachites of all time. The best show a wetlook luster, are chantoyant chantoyance, have rich color and attractive form. This has all that and is in excellent condition.
Striking, esthetic and unusual, this is a fine, undamaged piece with an "odd" color hue. The Shaba Dioptase can be quite impressive but rarely this delicate and sculptural with no matrix. The color in person looks almost a Malachite green but with a brilliant glassy luster, there is good transparency too as seen in some of the best Tsumeb Dioptase. A fine specimen from anyplace this is especially nice for Katanga area.
