SOLD Painite
stock #SOLD 19.1-861
Ohngaing, Mogok Valley, Mogok Township, Pyin-Oo-Lwin
Mandalay Division, Myanmar (Burma)
1.2 x .8 x .5 CM (thumbnail)
price: $0

A terminated, unusually sharp Painite crystal from the type locality of this rare specie. This crystal has bright luster, some transparency / translucence and red highlights under strong lighting. Far better than typical for this usually crude mineral. For many years Painite was described as the worlds rarest gemstone., at that time a crystal of this quality would be priced in the mid 4 figures when available. That has changed over the past decade but this is still certainly a rare mineral. Although dark this is not etched, included or cracked and could certainly be faceted.
Ruby- red Corundum
stock #18.1-154A
Ohngaing, Mogok Valley, Mogok Township, Pyin-Oo-Lwin
Mandalay Division, Myanmar (Burma)
3.1 x 1.1 x .9 CM (small miniature/ large thumbnail (toenail))
price: $850
Spring update

Rich red color Corundum crystal that is crude but complete and translucent throughout. Burmese (Mogok) Rubies are the most valued Ruby in the world and very few crystal specimens are available. This is a complex crystal with some etching (looks "melted" in spots) and recrystallization. Looks good on all sides, this is a sizable 24.5 Carat stone.
Sapphire -blue Corundum crystal
stock #18.1-153A
Ohngaing, Mogok Valley, Mogok Township, Pyin-Oo-Lwin
Mandalay Division, Myanmar (Burma)
3.7 x 2.1 x 1.8 CM (miniature)
price: $350
Spring update

A complete, somewhat crude, deep blue Sapphire crystal. Several small pits and cavities in some faces are filled with muscovite and some purplish sapphire chunks as well. Some transparent and translucent areas are seen but the majority is nearly opaque. A nice example of a real Mogok Sapphire that is not top gem grade but also not priced in the 6 figures. Nice specimen, these are not often available as every scrap of color seems to be cutup very quickly.
