Epidote -classic Austrian
stock #19.1-500
Knappenwand, Untersulzbachal Valley
Hohe Tauern Mts. Salzburg, Austria
3.3 x 2.8 x 1.5 CM (miniature)
price: $360

A choice small miniature of Knappenwand Epidote crystals perched on a sliver of matrix. Showing brilliant glassy luster, these are translucent with a dark yellow green when backlit but more green-black in normal light. In excellent condition the free standing crystals are just under 2 CM tall. All the crystals are in the classic alignment as they are standing in a tight parallel row. Every few years a few more Epidote are recovered from this most classic Alpine locale. These mountains do not give up these treasures often.
Epidote/ Clinozoisite classic locale
stock #18-AX-20-093
VAG Mine, Lowell & Eden
Vermont, United States
3.7 x 1 x .7 CM (miniature)
price: $120

A single, sharp terminated crystal of Epidote. At this locale these are often found to be zoned with Clinozoisite but usually not more than 50% hence the Epidote label. From the long closed now classic locale of the VAG mine in Northern Vermont, USA. A fine clean translucent to transparent crystal in fine shape from the Rodingite zone famed for world class Garnets. Lustrous, undamaged and with distinctive striations, a choice little classic Northeastern US piece.
Epidote -Classic US locality
stock #10.1-480
Green Monster Mountain, Prince of Wales Island, Prince of Wales Island
Alaska, United States
5 x 2.5 x 1.6 CM (miniature)
price: $280

A single, deep green crystal of Epidote from Prince of Wales Island. The termination shows the multiple steps that are typical of some from the Green Monster Mountain deposit. The crystal is crudely terminated on the base as well, not many doubly terminated prisms are seen. This piece was obtained by the previous owner from Shortmanns Minerals shop in Easthampton, Massachusetts. They worked closely with Ed Over and Arthur Montgomery selling many of their finds, and they were active on Green Monster. Sadly there is no documentation this is one of their pieces but it is a very nice example from this legendary locality.
Epidote on Quartz
stock #17.1-405
Green Monster Mountain, Prince of Wales Island, Prince of Wales Island
Alaska, United States
4.6 x 2.6 x 1.7 CM (miniature)
price: $190
Spring 2019

A choice tabular habit Epidote from the legendary finds at Green Monster Mountain in Alaska, USA. The Epidote is a complete textbook form crystal and quite lustrous. Deep green to brownish yellow hues nicely contrast with the clear colorless Quartz so the specimen stands out well. A fine specimen from the short list of great classic US locales.
Epidote -classic Italian
stock #18.1-747
Bellacombe, Chatillon
Aosta, Italy
2.2 x 2.2 x 1.8 CM (thumbnail)
price: $140
Dec 2018

Bright lustrous Epidote crystals in a cluster that are topped with a larger compound prism on the top. Largest prisms reach 1 CM which is very large for this locale. The crystals are all gemmy and the largest are in fine condition, a 20X magnification finds some very tiny chips but perfect by naked eye. The Bellacombe area is one of the great classic locales best known for great Garnets, Vesuvianites etc. The Epidote here can be a bright yellow color when small and grades to a honey brown as they get larger. This is a nice example that is well above average for size and esthetics.
SOLD Epidote -vintage, classic Swiss
stock #SOLD 18.1-646
Grischun (Grisons)
Graubunden, Switzerland
5.4 x .3 x .3 CM (small cabinet/ large miniature)
price: $0
Dec 2018

A fine, vintage classic Epidote prism in perfect condition with outstanding provenance. Ex Clarence Bement, American Museum of Natural History, Jeff Glover and the Larry Conklin collections with other labels as well. The slender prism is transparent, sharp, lustrous and well terminated. This sort of Epidote is rare from Switzerland and this one (donated to AMNH in 1910) was collected well over 100 years ago. The Bement collection was at one time considered the finest ever assembled in the Americas, it later formed the heart of the AMNH collection. Bement pieces are rarely available and this Swiss Alpine specimen is a choice one. One last note there are discrepancies among the old labels regarding the location, several list Zermat as the source, but research by later collectors indicates this is a Grisons (Grischun) piece.
Epidote -Doubly terminated
stock #18-AX-19-123
Alchuri, Shigar Valley, Skardu District, Baltistan
Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan
4 x 1.6 x .6 CM (miniature)
price: $80
Worldwide mix summer

A glassy yellow-green crystal cluster of classic form that is largely transparent from Alchuri. Doubly terminated and nearly a complete floater. There is a small edge rough spot where this was in contact with another crystal. The Pakistani Epidote can look a lot like other Alpine localities but have some distinctions too. This is a nice complete and very affordable example.
