Epidote gemmy crystals with minor Byssolite

Antrona Valley, Verbano-Cusio-Ossola Province
Piedmont, Italy
7.9 x 5.2 x4.1 CM (cabinet)
price: $170
new year 2021

Fine transparent crystals of olive green Epidote clustered in a pocket on a Rodingite matrix. Ex Glenn Petrie and Brizzi Giancarlo, (labels included), this specimen is dated March 1982. Most crystals are sharply terminated but some are incomplete due to being contacted. The luster is bright and glassy as is expected on any good alpine Epidote.

Epidote with Byssolite - old Austrian
stock #1052-JM-3632

Salzburg, Austria
7.1 x 5.4 x 4.1 CM (cabinet)
price: $1100
new year 2021

Lustrous crystals of Epidote fill an open cavity on a matrix that also hold masses of Byssolite. A big stack of old labels come with this piece. It was last in the John Marshall collection but dates back through many other owners perhaps also including the famed Lechner collection (Austria), certainly over a century old, the quality is excellent. The original labels and documents all give just Salzburg as the locale, but this certainly looks a perfect match for Kappenwand, but that is not confirmed. Regardless the exact spot this came from the piece displays well, is better in person. With good lighting the dark green to yellow color is more evident.

Epidote
stock #16.1-698
Calumet Mine, Turret District, Chaffee County
Colorado, United States
6.8 x 5.2 3.3 CM (cabinet)
price: $140
Spring 2020

A plate of Epidote that shows two different colors and has a few bi-color crystals. In very good condition the crystals reach up to 1.5 CM though most are smaller. Most crystals have gemmy faces, are transparent and have a yellow to dark green color range. From the old Calumet Iron mine in Chaffee County Colorado, this is above average for size and quality of the crystals on matrix. Many of the crystals are well striated with very sharp and distinct forms.

Epidote with Albite
stock #20.1-108
Amis Gorge, Brandburg Complex, Daures
Erongo Region, Namibia
6.8 x 4.8 x 3 CM (cabinet)
price: $330
Spring 2020

Sharp dark green free standing Epidote mixed with contrasting Feldspar (Albite) crystals. From a small find made almost 20 years ago, this is far above average and displays well from any angle. The condition of the crystals is very fine. Unlike any other Epidotes from Namibia and even quite unlike most any location anyplace else.

Epidote -classic Austrian
stock #19.1-500
Knappenwand, Untersulzbachal Valley
Hohe Tauern Mts. Salzburg, Austria
3.3 x 2.8 x 1.5 CM (miniature)
price: $360

A choice small miniature of Knappenwand Epidote crystals perched on a sliver of matrix. Showing brilliant glassy luster, these are translucent with a dark yellow green when backlit but more green-black in normal light. In excellent condition the free standing crystals are just under 2 CM tall. All the crystals are in the classic alignment as they are standing in a tight parallel row. Every few years a few more Epidote are recovered from this most classic Alpine locale. These mountains do not give up these treasures often.

Epidote -Classic US locality
stock #10.1-480
Green Monster Mountain, Prince of Wales Island, Prince of Wales Island
Alaska, United States
5 x 2.5 x 1.6 CM (miniature)
price: $280

A single, deep green crystal of Epidote from Prince of Wales Island. The termination shows the multiple steps that are typical of some from the Green Monster Mountain deposit. The crystal is crudely terminated on the base as well, not many doubly terminated prisms are seen. This piece was obtained by the previous owner from Shortmanns Minerals shop in Easthampton, Massachusetts. They worked closely with Ed Over and Arthur Montgomery selling many of their finds, and they were active on Green Monster. Sadly there is no documentation this is one of their pieces but it is a very nice example from this legendary locality.

Green Monster Mountain, Prince of Wales Island, Prince of Wales Island
Alaska, United States
4.6 x 2.6 x 1.7 CM (miniature)
price: $190
Spring 2019

A choice tabular habit Epidote from the legendary finds at Green Monster Mountain in Alaska, USA. The Epidote is a complete textbook form crystal and quite lustrous. Deep green to brownish yellow hues nicely contrast with the clear colorless Quartz so the specimen stands out well. A fine specimen from the short list of great classic US locales.
