Cassiterite
stock #AX-12-213
Mt. Xuebaoding, Pingwu Co., Mianyang Pref.
Sichuan, China
3.8 x 3.3 x 2.9 CM (miniature)
price: $150
pre Tucson 2015 update

There have been many Cassiterites recovered from Xuebaoding, but the prismatic type with the pyrimidal termination is by far the rarest form. This is a good lustrous single crystal that shows the habit well. There are contacts and a few tiny chips so the price reflects this yet it is still a very nice example.
Cassiterite
stock #AX-22-183
San Antonio Mine
Loayza Province, La Paz department, Bolivia
5 x 3.4 x 2.2 CM (miniature)
price: $140
pre Tucson 2015 update

One of the oldest and best localities for fine Cassiterites in the Americas is the La Paz area of Bolivia. This specimen has well formed and lustrous crystals that under strong lighting show some translucence. The "naked eye" color is shiny black but the "under strong lighting" color is a deep honey orange hue. Some tiny edge chipping exists but most crystals are pristine and the quality for the price is a very good value.
Cassiterite
stock #4.2-269
Mt. Xuebaoding, Pingwu Co., Mianyang Pref.
Sichuan, China
8 x 7.4 x 5.9 CM (cabinet)
price: $500

A well placed cluster of lustrous Cassiterite perched on the classic Muscovite matrix of Mt. Xuebaoding. Very nice presentation and contrast, the Cassiterite is just over 4 CM across and in very good condition. By naked eye there is no damage but good magnification shows slight edge chips that are not at all distracting on display.
Cassiterite (gemmy)
stock #10.1-320
Ximeng County, Pu'er Prefecture
Yunnan, China
5.8 x 3.5 CM (small cabinet/ large miniature)
price: $260

Glass like gemmy Cassiterites up to 1.8 CM set on a contrasting matrix. It has become hard to find good Ximeng Cassiterites, they are distinctive and desirable, with higher luster than most any other locations. This is a good example that really shines in good light.
Cassiterite (twinned) on Arseopyrite
stock #7-BOLI-131
Viloca Mine (Araca Mine)
Loayza Province, La Paz department, Bolivia
10.8 X 7.4 CM (cabinet)
price: $1750

A very fine, esthetic and pristine example with very well formed twinned prismatic crystal. These are well positioned and free standing with excellent luster. Individual prism reach 2CM and the matrix is well crystallized arsenopyrite for a nice contrast. Nearly all Viloco Cassiterite comes out damaged, this large piece is a rarity as there is only very minor chipping at a a few edges that are not obvious, it is virtually pristine. Displays well from many angles.
