Tenkergin Mine, Iuttinskly Mining Complex
Chukotskil Autonomous Okrug,
4 x 3.2 x 4 CM (miniature)
A nice, partly gemmy, complex Scheelite crystal from an uncommon locality. Displays well but some chipping can be found and the backside has a large clean contact where another crystal had formed. A few of the corners show red clear areas or darker zones and the faces show many sharp steps. Very rare to find on the market, this specimen is over 30 years old.
A sparkling bright purple matrix is the host for lustrous white Scheelites to 1.5 CM in size. An unusual combination (to me at least) from Yaoganxian, this is in fine condition. A few Dolomite crystals are sprinkled on the Scheelites and on the back of the matrix. Several options for display angle, the color is a little more vivid in person.
Scheelite w. Goshenite & Pyrite
Mt. Xuebaoding, Pingwu Co., Mianyang Pref.
8.1 x 6 x 2.6 CM (cabinet)
Post Tucson 2015
An excellent and very weird Scheelite from the great Xuebaoding locale. Deep orange-red color Scheelite largest being 4.8 CM in elongated psuedo-octahedral crystals that also shows some selected etching that is almost never seen. The form is unusual and the matrix is even more odd, completely unlike other Xuebaoding specimens. Close exam shows small but typical flattened Goshenite Beryls and related minerals seen from this find. The Scheelite is quite clear and has gemmy areas, In 16 years I have only seen 2
specimens of this style.
A Yaoganxian Scheelite that is really attractive and has very sharp individual crystals to 1.3 CM. Great luster and translucent Scheelite contrasts well with the crystallized Dolomite matrix. A few crystals at the edges are incomplete they seem contacted, but the main specimen is in excellent condition. The entire specimen is formed over FGerberite crystals that are responsible for the bladed shape of the whole piece. The Ferberite is encased inm Dolomite and only visible at the base where it was removed.
If you know or collect Yaogangian, you can see this is a VERY fine Scheelite multi-specie piece! In excellent undamaged condition, this is densely packed with bright, lustrous and transparent/translucent Scheelites with honey brown color. This quality and esthetic is a rare for the locality. We selected this piece at the mine in 2006. There is nothing like this on the market now. Yaogangxian is the most famous and significant locality in China for collectors. Good Scheelite was always rare from there, this one is exceptional and the mine is now closed.
Scheelite on Quartz
Tong Wha Mine, Neungam-ri, Angseong-myeon, Chunglu
5 x 2.7 x 2.3 CM (miniature)
A well presented, sharp, shiny Scheelite is perfectly perched on the side of a quartz crystal. Good Korean Scheelites were never very common 30 years ago and now are seen when older collections are dispursed. The Scheelite (1.7 CM) is translucent and has a few areas of selected etching. Overall in good shape, one tiny area of chipping can be found with magnification. A nice, esthetic and affordable old Korean piece.
From an exciting 2012 find, a single bright Scheelite (3.6 CM) is neatly perched on contrasting matrix. An important note: there has been recent discussion about the yellow green color of some Scheelites with rumors of faking by dyes or other chemicals. This is not certain and may well not be true, but it does have to be considered. Color aside, the form, habit, luster and presentation of these Scheelites are just incredible. In great condition overall, the Scheelite is quite transparent and inclusions of silvery Lollingite are noted with magnification. This find will certainly be remembered as exceptional for the species and the prices of these are already increasing fast even in China.
Scheelite on Muscovite
Mt. Xuebaoding, Pingwu Co., Mianyang Pref.
8 6.8 CM (cabinet)
A fine yellow-orange crystal perched perfectly on the muscovite matrix. A modern classic, Pingwu has produced the worlds best scheelites, this is a much better than average piece. Well exposed, sharp and in fine condition, the Scheelite is 4.6 CM across with bright glassy luster. By naked eye there is no damage at all but with 10x magnification a very tiny bit of edge scuffing is seen. The form is an elongated psudo-octahedron and the forward facing termination is unusually gemmy and transparent. Good examples in this condition have become very hard to find.
