Grossular (Andradite) on Blue Calcite
stock #16.1-1278
Dognaczka, Banat Mountains
Caras Severin Co., Hungary
8.3 x 6.2 x 3.8 CM (cabinet)
price: $250

Classic locality specimen with well formed Garnets up to 1.9 CM across. These brown crystals contrast well with a blue Calcite and Feldspar matrix. This locality has produced both Adradite and Grossular in the skarn and this was previously identified as Grossular but it likely is zoned and has at least some Andradite. The main crystals are complete and in undamaged condition. There are some smaller and one has damage though it is not distracting. The matrix on this is especially nice and the isolation of the crystals is far better than any other I have seen .
Grossular - fine Gem Garnet
stock #18-AX-31-006B
Jeffrey Mine, Asbestos
Quebec, Canada
1.7 x 1.7 x 1.5 CM (thumbnail)
price: $950

Bright, lustrous, colorful and incredibly well formed gem Garnet from the Jeffrey Mine. A tiny bit of Diopside matrix and a small side car crystal are the only additions. In fine condition as seen, a quite superb thumbnail with well defined striations and a glass-like look. Single complete and well isolated crystals of this size are especially desirable. There were never many of top quality Grossular when the quarry was working but now these are just never seen.
HOLD Grossular -green zoned, rare red fluorescent
stock #HOLD 19.1-364
Jeffrey Mine, Asbestos
Quebec, Canada
1.8 x 1.4 x .9 (thumbnail)
price: $190

Small but very impressive thumbnail of intense green Garnets sitting on a druze of tiny Diopside crystals. The Diopside is slightly greenish in color and is fluorescent a bright yellow while the Grossular (in 450 NM light) is a brilliant red. Even without this very rare response for a garnet, the specimen is super attractive, the Garnets are gem clear, lustrous, sharp and undamaged. From the great Jeffrey mine, this is a tiny treasure.

Large red-purple "Raspberry" Garnets on contrasting matrix from Coahuilla. The crystals reach 1.4 CM and some are intergrown. Aside from some contacts the crystals are unusually complete and well exposed on the matrix. This locale was still active and producing until about 4 years ago. This style of Garnet is unique to this zone which over the years produced many fine specimens. A good, affordable specimen.

An attractive, complex specimen of lustrous cinnamon colored Grossular on prismatic Diopside crystals. A classic combination from the famed Jeffrey Mine. The Garnets are well formed and damage free, the Diopsides are well terminated with flat tops and also undamaged but are contacted on the outer edges. A choice miniature that has a fine color contrast. Better in person.

Dec 2018

Rare clear, zoned Garnets with green centers from Jeffrey Mine which are highly desired and unique to this legendary locality. In addition to being a choice and esthetic specimen these Grossular are vividly fluorescent, bright red in midrange and orange in longwave. In super condition even under magnification, this is a very fine example with a good mint green color overall even on the Pectolite and Diopside matrix. There was only a single find 30 years ago this type Grossular and is unique to the Jeffrey mine. A very choice miniature.

2.4 x 2 x 1.5 CM (thumbnail)

Dec 2018

A killer thumbnail of gem clear sharp Garnets that are well isolated and super lustrous. The crystals are unusually smooth without most of the usual striations so the faces are like windows looking into the crystals. In excellent condition, micro contacts can be found with 20X magnification but overall a perfect piece. A modern classic, this quality is far, far beyond the average yet still very affordable.

3.4 x 2.4 x 1.1 CM (small miniature/ large thumbnail (toenail))

A super attractive Grossular from the great Jeffrey Mine. The matrix is all Garnet, a thin plate of transparent pale Grossular with a cluster of larger deep orange crystals that are very distinct and have fine luster. The main Grossular is 1.5 CM across and all gem. In fine condition this has a nice contrast and gives a good isolation to the main crystals.
