Hubeite and Inesite (very fine, type locality)
stock #AX-15-131
Fengjiashan Mine (Daye Copper Mine), Edong District, Daye County, Huangs
Hubei, China
12.6 x 11.9 x 3.9 CM (cabinet)
price: $750
Post Tucson 2015

A superb Hubeite specimen. This is a fine, large and impressive plate fully crystallized by sharp transparent Inesites and darker brown red Hubeites. This Hubeite is especially good as it is very sharply formed, densely packed and in much larger than usual crystals. All in all this is showy and damage free which is remarkable for such delicate minerals.
Amethyst with Apophyllite and Hubeite
stock #7AE-545
Fengjiashan Mine (Daye Copper Mine), Edong District, Daye County, Huangs
Hubei, China
7.3 x 3.4 x 4.1 CM (cabinet)
price: $175

A very neat, clean and colorful example of this find from about 8 years ago at Fengjiashan. In fine condition the Amethyst shows multiple growth steps and has excellent transparency and luster. The tabular apophyllite covering 3 faces has nice crystals to 1.5 CM and a dusting of micro minerals including Hubeite.
Grossular (gemmy yellow garnet)
stock #11.1-W01
Handan Prefecture
Hubei, China
7 x 4.1 CM (cabinet)
price: $440

A pure mass of gemmy lustrous yellow garnets crystals densely packed together with no matrix. This is a recent find (2010)from the area that has in the past produced both grossular and vesuvianite, but not in this form! This is the best example I have seen so far. Showy glass-like sparkling crystals up to 1.3 cm (average about 4-7 mm) are jammed together as an intergrown mass. Most crystals are complete without damage but several have signs of contacting and a few small points show chipping with magnification. By naked eye this displays very well.
Calcite
stock #6.2-712
Fengjiashan Mine (Daye Copper Mine), Edong District, Daye County, Huangs
Hubei, China
6,8 x 5.5 CM (cabinet)
price: $300

A wonderfully displayed gemmy calcite (4.2 CM across)sits on a small shard of matrix that is dusted with smaller gemmy calcites as well. Great form and condition, the calcite has some glass clear faces and interior and others with a very light frosting. This looks great from any angle, from one side looking like an old English Calcite and from others like a modern Dalngorsk piece. This is from the Daye mine in Hubei, China which has produced a lot of great calcites, but this one is distinctly different than others we have seen.
Calcite complex twins with Hematite Phantoms
stock #8.1-036
Daye Iron Mine, Edong Mining District, Huangshi Prefecture
Hubei, China
9.9 x 7 CM (cabinet)
price: $420

An exceptional example of a very esthetic Daye Calcite. This locality has produced the some very fine Calcites, which are immediatly recognizable. The best are glassy, clear, gemmy and have a orange-rose blush from included Hematite. Like most locations the very best are quite rare. This is one of those. The larger crystal is 4.4 CM across, the matrix is covered by a carpet of gemmy glasslike crystals to just under a centimeter. The Orange color is especial good on this, there is no eye visible damage on the display face. The back of the matrix is partly sawn from collecting, there is damge that is not visible from the front. I think these will be regarded as important worldclass Calcites when they are no longer available, much like English material. Very affordable for this quality!
Fluorapophyllite with Hubeite
stock #6.2-908
Fengjiashan Wollastonite Mine, Daye
Hubei, China
6.2 x 5 CM (small cabinet/ large miniature)
price: $175

From the type locality for Hubeite, this is an esthetic and unusually pristine apophyllite. Clear crystals to over 2 CM cover the matrix and these are sprinkled with rosettes and clusters of reddish brown Hubeite and some micro calcites. Most of these have lots of serious damage, this one is far better than usual but not perfect. The most important crystals are very clean with only minor edge rubbing seen at 10X magnification, there is some visible damage at the outside edges. This displays well and makes a good addition to a suite of Chinese minerals, rarities or new minerals. There has not been new Hubeite on the mineral market recently.
