Lepidolite - unusual crystal form, on Cleavelandite
stock #23.1-586
Cruzeiro Mine, Sao Jose de Safira
Minas Gerais, Brazil
9.5 x 5.4 x 4.6 CM (cabinet)
price: $90

A perfect radiating disk form of Lepidolite with many small terminations on the outer edge. The color grades from silver in the center to purple at the outer sides. The disk is nestled in a mass of small Quartz crystals and blades of Cleavelandite. An unusual and attractive habit for this Lithium rich Mica, this can certainly be trimmed if desired but this matrix is so nicely crystallized it seems a shame to do so.

Eosphorite on Rose Quartz
stock #RT 20.1-326
Pitorra Claim, Laranjeiras, Galileia, Doce Valley
Minas Gerais, Brazil
4.7 x 4.6 x 3.4 CM (miniature)
price: $440
Pre Tucson

Dense clusters of golden-brown Eosphorite needle crystals on contrasting Rose Quartz. The Eosphorite is transparent and very lustrous. The condition is excellent which is impressive for these slender, delicate crystals. The Rose Quartz is also well-crystalized, the largest prism is over 1 CM though most are smaller. An excellent example of the specie which is also attractive and undamaged.

Beryl var Heliodor
stock #8.AE-996

Minas Gerais, Brazil
3.2 x 2.4 x 1.1.9 CM (small miniature/ large thumbnail (toenail))
price: $450
Pre Tucson

Bright yellow gem grade Beryl crystal 26.2 grams. Essentially this is all fine facet grade that was rescued from cutting some decades ago. This crystal section is well-terminated on one end and although broken on the other end it does show some rehealing there. The color is yellow with an orange hue in most lighting but with a backlight it is a pure bright yellow. It does not seem to be heat treated or irradiated as far as we can tell. Since this came from a gem lot in Minas Gerais (Brazil) we are not certain of the exact mine source, though we have guesses. It is sold as a very nice gem crystal at a great discount for the reason of incomplete locality data. Very fine luster and well-defined striations, this is sold below the value of the facet rough.

Beryl - etched crystal
stock #23.1-660
Medina Pegmatite field, Pedra Azul District
Minas Gerais, Brazil
2.3 x 1.0 x .9 CM (thumbnail)
price: $360
Pre Tucson

A fine thumbnail of etched green to yellow hue Beryl crystal. This is doubly terminated from the famed Medina finds of Minas Gerais. This color is exactly between a Heliodor and Aquamarine, depending on the type of light it is seen in it will look like either. A very nice thumbnail with tapered termination on one end and a flat one on the other side. Fully transparent, this is an older piece from the 1970 era, ex. Les Hitchings collection. In excellent condition as seen.

Heliodor - classic form gem Beryl crystal
stock #16.1-519
Padre Paraiso, Jequitinhonha Valley
Minas Gerais, Brazil
3.2 x 1 x .9 CM (thumbnail)
price: $900
Pre Tucson

A very fine gem crystal thumbnail. This is a small version of the famed etched Beryls from the golden years of Brazilian pegmatite discoveries. In excellent condition, this has the typical flat termination and all faces have various sorts of geometric etching. The luster ranges from a matte satin to bright glassy in some areas. Nearly 100 percent of the crystal is gem transparent though there are inclusions to note. Ex Les Hitchings collection this was obtained in 1979 on his trip to Brazil. It is not common to find thumbnail sized crystals of this quality.

Elbaite - blue-green gem crystal
stock #23.1-560
Barra do Salinas Mining District, Coronel Murta
Minas Gerais, Brazil
3.1 x .8 x.7 CM (small miniature/ large thumbnail (toenail))
price: $340
Pre Tucson

A single very clear gem Tourmaline crystal with a color that is a bit more dark blue than green in most light. The termination is complete with the distinctive etched steps of good Barra do Salinas tips. Bright luster and glows well with backlighting. The costs of any blue Elbaite has gotten very high recently, this is a much more down to earth price and very good value.

Columbite - well-formed prismatic crystal
stock #23.1-334-(D5924)
Rio Doce District
Minas Gerais, Brazil
3.8 x 2.7 x 2.2 CM (miniature)
price: $550
Pre Tucson

Unusually sharp, lustrous (for Columbite) and perfectly terminated, this is a choice single crystal of the specie. Ex University of Delaware Museum, the condition is outstanding especially given the fragility of Columbite. A heavy piece (just over 74 grams despite the small size), a textbook perfect example from the Brazilian pegmatites of Rio Doce.

Topaz (Imperial) on matrix, rare red fluorescent
stock #21.1-030
Ouro Preto
Minas Gerais, Brazil
8.1 x 6.6 x 5.3 CM (cabinet)
price: $380
Spring 23

Good matrix examples of Imperial Topaz are incredibly rare. Most of these crystals are recovered loose, the rare matrix pieces are typically badly broken fragments. This is quite unusual with three distinct gemmy crystals, the largest at 3.6 CM long in a hard ironstone (Hematite-rich sandstone) block. These crystals are also vividly fluorescent with a red to red-orange color, most Imperial topaz does not fluoresce but we have seen some that glow a yellow to yellow-green. On this specimen only one crystal shows a full termination and there is damage as seen, so this is not a display specimen for perfectionists but it is still impressive and very uncommon.
