From the Thomas Mountains a multi-species specimen with nice esthetics. This could be trimmed to thumbnail size but I like it as is. Fine condition, although with magnification some small contacts are noted on the Bixbite. It is not common to see all these species on the same matrix in close proximity.
Variscite with Wardite crystals etc.
Little Green Monster Mine, Clay Canyon, Fairfield
5.8 x 4 x 2.5 CM (cabinet)
pre Tucson 2015 update
An unpolished Variscite etc. nodule showing many of the associated species (Crandellite etc) and having a fine vug of blue green Wardite in distinct crystals. Often Wardite from the Fairfield area is white or grey, this is a much more attractive color and the crystals are very sharp, clear and much better than typical.
Grossular (fine green color)
stock #Alec 14B-132
Wah Wah Mts, Beaver County
4.4 x 3.4 CM (miniature)
From an small, little known find several years ago from the locale better known for red beryl. This specimen hosts a nicely perched, big (2cm) crystal with great luster and an unusually deep green color. Excellent contrast with the matrix, this crystal has been reattached, like every other example Ive seen. This specimen has by far the best color of any I know and stands out well for the locality and the specie.
Illustrated specimen from the recent Min. Record article on Variscite! From the great early finds by Ed Over in Fairfield, Utah, this is an attractive nodule of colorful and uncommon phosphates. Most pieces like this were sawn and polished to show off the zoning and fortifications, it is rather hard to find a good natural nodule. Very nice colors and loaded with micros, this is classic material and a very good example.
stock #8 UT THUMB 788
2.9 x 2.7 CM (thumbnail)
A lusterous thumbnail with several sizable and sharp bixbyites, on a matrix of topaz (cystallized with "sand" inclusions). The crystals all have some contacting and included topaz and the matrix topaz is somewhat crude. Despite this the largest crystal of Bixbyite is sizable at 1.4 CM and very bright, and this is well over the average in general quality.
3.9 x 1.5 CM (small miniature/ large thumbnail (toenail))
A very clean, sharp and clear sherry color Topaz that is representative of the better quality gem crystals that the Thomas Mts have produced. Good value for a bright, sparkly toenail!
