A new find of classic habit from pockets opened in late summer 2019. These very richly colored and well crystalized Amazonites follow in the fine tradition of fine Colorado Feldspars. Well above average intense deep blue-green color and bright luster, these crystals are translucent and the condition is fine.
A new find of classic habit from pockets opened in late summer 2019. These very richly colored and well crystalized Amazonites follow in the fine tradition of fine Colorado Feldspars. Well above average intense deep blue-green color and bright luster, these crystals are translucent and the condition is fine. This piece has rich color zoning in person and the edges are remarkably distinct, sharp and clean.
A super esthetic older piece from finds made more than 50 years ago (predating the famed Lees pocket). This is in flawless condition the cluster of Barites has fine steel blue color and contrasts with a yellowish Calcite matrix. In addition to the nice arrangement some of the Barite faces show a very unusual etching pattern seen in some photos here. Lots of visual impact for the size, the color is a bit richer than the more recent finds, all in all far better than "above average", an excellent old time Colorado specimen.
Topaz - Classic Colorado
Tarryall Mt, Park County
2.9 x 2.3 x 1.9 CM (thumbnail)
A very nice thumbnail with fine provenance. This was in the Warren Johansson Collection since September 1941, he obtained this from the legendary George M White. Warren was a student at that time and was very actively exchanging minerals while working on his Phd. George White is famed for his Topaz finds. This specimen has a flawless clear, undamaged Topaz crystal perched on contrasting matrix. A choice slice of mineral history.
Rhodochrosite with Quartz- Classic
American Tunnel Mine, Silverton, San Juan Co.
7.4 x 5.1 x 3.1 CM (cabinet)
Well defined and sharp rhombs of Rhodochrosite from the classic Colorado locale of the American Tunnel in Silverton. This is the "other" Colorado Rhodo locality that was world famed long before the great finds at Sweet Home. The Am Tunnel Rhodos are also not in the same high price bracket as Sweet Home, but can be quite choice. The locality had a long history of producing Rhodochrosite specimens usually a more pale pink or less well formed. This is a unusually attractive specimen with sharp red crystals that are well exposed and esthetic. Three dimensional, undamaged and far better than usual with a contrasting matrix. Ex collection of R and A Palmer, W Hladysz and A Dilldallion.
Fluorite on Smoky Quartz with Microcline
Dreamtime claim, Crystal Peak, Teller County
5.5 x 3.3 x 2.1 CM (small cabinet/large miniature)
Late Summer 2018
A classic Colorado pegmatite mineral from a relatively new find at the Dreamtime claim. Cubic deep purple Fluorites are perched on Smokey Quartz with some adhering Microcline. Esthetic presentation, this looks even better with backlight (we have not photographed this with backlight as that can be misleading). In person the Quartz is more transparent. A nice example of the Fluorites in this find very cool find.
Stoneham, Weld County
5 x 3.3 x 1 CM (miniature)
Late Summer 2018
A nice cluster of blue barite in typical flat crystal form from the famed Stoneham, Colorado area. A classic habit and locale, these are immediately recognizable. Complete on all sides, this is an affordable and attractive example 1980 vintage.
A super, small specimen in excellent condition and with top grade color. Sharp form, undamaged and un-repaired, larger specimens with this quality cost thousands. Excellent value for a vibrant, classic USA Microcline.
