Pyromorphite
stock #18-AX-15-051 (C085)
Daoping Lead-Zinc Mine, Yangshao
Guangxi Autonomous Region, China
7.4 x 5.3 x 3.7 CM (cabinet)
price: $2600

Outstanding small cabinet specimen of very well crystallized Pyromorphite from the "golden years" of the great Daoping Mine. Ex. collection of Frances and Shields Flynn, this is a now classic habit that has grown on a hollow cast of pure Pyromorphite that is seen on the backside. In super clean condition with rich deep color, many of the crystals show hoppered terminations but others have tapered or flat tips. This locality became instantly famous in 2000 when the first good pieces can out. The "golden years" that followed produced what many feel were the best ever Pyros. Production is now minimal and sporadic, this quality and size is no longer to be found. This specimen was exhibited in 2005 in the Tucson (TGMS) China display. Excellent value for this quality.
Plumbogummite replacing Pyromorphite
stock #19.1-336
Daoping Lead-Zinc Mine, Yangshao
Guangxi Autonomous Region, China
7.5 x 5.1 x 2.7 CM (cabinet)
price: $950

An elegant specimen with flowerlike crystal sprays on a powder blue matrix. The crystals are in several stages of pseudomorphing from Pyromorphite to Plumbogummite. These are in excellent condition, complete and undamaged which is very rare in these specimens. Many of the free standing crystals are light blue on one side and yellow-green on the opposite side. These amazing Plumbogumites from China were big mineral news when these were first found, they have been recognized as the worlds best.
Pyromorphite -unusual color for locale
stock #AX-19-049
Daoping Lead-Zinc Mine, Yangshao
Guangxi Autonomous Region, China
6.1 x 4.5 x 2.9 CM (cabinet)
price: $1400

Delicate sprays of glassy, transparent and sharp Pyromorphite crystals covering all sides of this specimen from Daoping. Minimal matrix, this Pyro has unusual pale colors mixed with a few of the more typical bright green hues. In impressive condition overall, this is incredible for such a delicate specimen. The pointed light yellow to brown crystasls are arranged in radiating clusters and bunches. The Daoping mine at Yangshao has become world famed for top Pyromorphites. This is a fine quality specimen and it is much more rare to see this color and habit so well presented.
Smithsonite -two toned yellow to green
stock #18.1-686
Xiafu, Zhoaping Co. Henzoh Prefecture
Guangxi Autonomous Region, China
5.1 x 3.4 x 2.9 CM (miniature)
price: $240
Spring 2019

A wet looking luster on this botryoidal Smithsonite with the so-called Cadmium color. From the find in 2016 in Guangxi, China, this is an attractive large miniature with two colors and two different textures. In excellent condition the display side of this has no bruises or issues. These were originally sold as a Cadmium Smithsonite due to the color but later testing shows little to no Cadmium. Still a great color for Smithsonite no matter the source.
Hydrozincite
stock #7.AE-533
Muqiaomian Depsit, Xinlu-Shuilyanba Quanzhou County, Guilin Prefecture
Guangxi Autonomous Region, China
5.6 x 4.5 x 3.3 CM (cabinet)
price: $390
Spring 2019

From the one time find over a decade ago that produced some of the worlds best ever Hydrozincites. This is a very well formed example with perfect form and fine luster. Hydrozincite is not normally thought of as an esthetic mineral but this is certainly very attractive. These were at first mistaken for Aragonite with odd luster but on closer study proved to be much rarer and with amazing quality. We have not seen any like this for sale in years.
Smithsonite -
stock #18.1-682
Xiafu, Zhoaping Co. Henzoh Prefecture
Guangxi Autonomous Region, China
7.8 x 6.4 x 4.3 CM (cabinet)
price: $1150
Dec 2018

A colorful and very well formed knob of botryoidal Smithsonite with good yellow color. Choice and three dimensional, this looks great from most any angle. Except at the base where this was removed, there is no damage or bruises on any surface. The satiny luster is especially rich. These have been marketed as "Cadmium" Smithsonite but there have been some different analysis that conflicts with this and some claim that none of the yellow Smithsonites from any deposit owe their color to Cadmium. I suspect the truth is someplace in the middle. I do not know if Cadmium is involved in this specimen or this find but this is the sought after "Cadmium'" color. Excellent eye appeal and overall esthetics, no matter the color source. An excellent value for one of these complete knobs which are quite uncommon and priced far higher when available.
Pyromorphite
stock #18.1-697
Daoping Lead-Zinc Mine, Yangshao
Guangxi Autonomous Region, China
5.1 x 4 x 3.1 CXM (small cabinet/ large miniature)
price: $2850
Dec 2018

A perfect, killer miniature. Top intense color, brilliant luster and elegant form in an undamaged specimen. Even though many of these were found since the first finds in 2000, very few were this well formed and esthetic. This specimen comes from a small recent pocket, that gave the first Pyromorphites of any quality in more than 4 years. These are modern classics and the best Daoping Pyros like this one are quite prized as they stand out from the average pieces. This presents well on every side and angle, the crystals show several habits but are mostly elongated freestanding hexagons some with central hoppers. The smaller, slender crystals are a little less bright green and are also perfect in radiating clusters. Minimal matrix, a perfect large miniature with a display impact much larger than this size. It is incredible this is so perfect and undamaged, even better in person.
Pyromorphite -hoppered crystals.
stock #18.1-634
Daoping Lead-Zinc Mine, Yangshao
Guangxi Autonomous Region, China
4.8 x 3.8 x 2.7 CM (miniature)
price: $520
Dec 2018

A pretty Pyromorphite with better than average, very distinct hoppered crystals on smaller prisms. From late finds at the amazing Daoping mine, this is a not the typical color from here, it is more like an olive green hue in person. Choice and in excellent condition, Daoping has become a great modern classic locality and this sort of Pyromorphite shows why.
