Cerussite on Galena - classic locale, vintage specimen
stock #19.1-350
Stribro (Mies), Tachov District, Pizen Region
Bohemia, Czech Republic
6.7 x 5.9 x 3.2 CM (cabinet)
price: $850

From one of the oldest Mine sites in Europe (close to 900 years plus) this is an exceptional vintage specimen. Well formed Cerussites with elongated pseudohexagonal habit are perched across a crystalized Galena face. The Cerussites are a sooty butterscotch yellow-orange color and are mostly in clusters yet are distinct and well separated. Largest reach 2.5 CM Old labels include one from Muralt (Vienna). In remarkable condition for this very delicate specie, there are only some minor bruises on the outer edges. The Galena has a complexly crystalized surface and the Cerussite is quite strongly Fluorescent.
Proustite - crystaline ruby Silver, Type locality
stock #15.1-101
Jachymov, Erzgebirge, Karlovy Vary
Bohemia, Czech Republic
4.3 x 3.6 x 1.7 CM (miniature)
price: $620

An exceptionally rich, very pure mass of crystalline Proustite that has well preserved color and is fully translucent. With strong backlighting this glows like a chunk of dark red glass (we have not backlit the photos here so it gives a realistic view of the mineral in a normal display). There are numerous complex crystal faces, etched surfaces and edges on this piece but also to note some chipping too. Overall in fine condition for such a very old, vintage specimen. It was suggested that this could be considered facet rough gem stock though that is not what we do. The total weight is over 68 Grams which is certainly a lot of red Silver. With magnification some sharp complete terminated Stephanite crystals are seen. These are small but very fine with an elongated habit that make a nice association. This is from the type locale and especially choice for the large size, condition and quality overall.
Valentinite
stock #19.1-329
Pribam
Bohemia, Czech Republic
6.8 x 4.7 x 1.7 CM (cabinet)
price: $130

An old specimen from the classic mines of Pribram, densely covered with Valentinite crystals. The Valentinites are of the elongated type with complex cross section. These crystals reach 1 CM and are both free standing and flat laying. There are several complete, undamaged crystals but there are also several with clearly visible damage. While this is not a piece or perfectionsts it is better than typical for this delicate mineral and is a lower cost, classic specimen. Ex Vrazel collection.
Pyromorphite- ex. Bally, Marshall
stock #0933-JM-4233
Stribro (Mies), Tachov District, Pizen Region
Bohemia, Czech Republic
6.8 x 5.5 x 3.2 CM (cabinet)
price: $285

A mass of rounded Galena is covered on all sides by sharp brown crystals of Pyromorphite. A choice example from Stribro (Mies) in Bohemia, this was in the Bally Museum (Switzerland) then sold by Alain Martaud to the John Marshall Pyro collection. A floater, the crystals are slender like needles growing on all surfaces. By naked eye this is in perfect condition but with magnification some broken crystals are seen. A much better than average old Mies specimen that is probably the Ca rich variety but has not been tested.
Pyromorphite
stock #16.1-425-CN3253
Stribro (Mies), Tachov District, Pizen Region
Bohemia, Czech Republic
5.8 x 3.9 2.7 CM (cabinet)
price: $290

A somewhat "normal" type of Pyromorphite from Stribro Mies. The Calcium rich Pyromorphites from Stribro were at one time proposed as a unique mineral specie "Miesite", but is simply a variety. This vintage specimen has a chain of labels calling this Miesite but it does not have the usual look with brown balls. This is a more normal type Pyro with two generations of greenish to yellow-brown crystals on gossan matrix. A nice old piece ex University of Pennslyvania, Crawford and Noll collections. Crystals to 5mm but most are smaller, in reasonably good condition especially considering the age and delicate nature of the piece.
Orthoclase- Carlsbad twin, type locale
stock #17.1-244
Karlovy Vary (Karlsbad)
Bohemia, Czech Republic
6.8 x 4.8 x 3.5 CM (cabinet)
price: $380
new june 17

From the original Karlsbad, this is a perfect Carlsbad twin of Orthoclase. The twin is a complete floater 360 degrees without comtact. There is a second twin perched in the center of the specimen, making this a twin-twin to coin a phrase. This habit got its name from early finds at Karlsbad and this is a textbook perfect example from an old Czech collection.
Pyromorphite (Ex Lechner, John Marshall)
stock #0100-JM-141
Bleistadt
Bohemia, Czech Republic
6.2 x 4.5 CM (cabinet)
price: $350

A very old specimen from Bleistadt, this vuggy matrix holds about half a dozen lustrous Pyros. Similar but slightly darker than Bad Ems color these crystals reach 9mm. From the famous Lechner collection that was sold by Schortmann in the 60's. Classic and very rare, in excellent condition.
