A choice and attractive Tsumeb specimen. A flower-like cluster of sharp Malachite pseudo after Azurite crystals is nicely perched on mounds of sharp well crystallized green Duftite. These are sizable (for the specie) and they are perched on what looks to be Mimetite and some Cerussite with a few gem clear Calcite crystals, a tuft of Rosasite and a few other micros of related species. This is the kind of elegant and complex mixing of diverse species and crazy chemistry that makes Tsumeb minerals so incredible. In fine condition, displays well and a real treat under the microscope.
Cerussite -vintage from classic locale
Freidrichssegagen Mine, Frucht, Bad Ems District
3.2 x 2.6 x 2.3 CM (small miniature/ large thumbnail (toenail))
new june 17
An old, very gemmy Cerussite with several different crystal habits present with label from the mining Acadamy at Freiberg (Bergakademie Freiberg). The Bad Ems area once had many lead mines and was famed for its great Pyromorphites. The Cerussites could also be quite fine as seen here but many old pieces do not have a clear mine atribution. This piece is clearly noted as from the Friedrichsegen mine, which closed in 1913. The condition is excellent.

San Juan de Rayas Mine - Level 407
2.8 x 1.4 x 1.1 (thumbnail)
new june 17
A well formed thumbnail of complex Acanthite crystals. These show modified cube forms and "melted" look hoppered crystals. A nice dark silver patina and good luster give this a nice presence. A classic Mexican specimen.
A large, sharp, very pale green single crystal of Prehnite in blocky form. From the Jeffrey Mine, where some of the worlds best and largest Prehnite crystals were found. No damage and with good luster this is a nice thumbnail that shows the habit well. Prehnite is a rather common mineral but crystals over a half centimeter are very rare and only come from a few finds.
A complete floater, this twinned Cerussite is crystallized all around and is in pristine condition. Dusted with Micro crystals of Posnjakite and perhaps a few other species, which add a nice color contrast. The individual arms are complex, multi-faced, parallel growth crystals which are lustrous and in some areas transparent. Text book habit with the twinning well defined and esthetic.
Cerussite- gem clear twins
Kombat Mine, Kombat, Grootfontein District,
5.3 x 3.2 x 2.8 CM (cabinet)
new june 17
A killer gem clear twinned cluster of glasslike crystals with fine cognac color. From the legendary finds in 1969-72 at Kombat that are now considered the finest gem Cerussite ever. This has several strong impact display angles, and the transparency in person is striking. A small attached reticulated cluster adds a little contrast and some faces show a cats eye effect in strong lighting. Nearly all fine facet grade but it would be a crime to cut these. Good Kombat twins are rare to find and treasured by their owners.
Really fine form and rich color on this specimen from the recent finds at Luputo. The pseudomorph retains the shape of the original Azurite crystals that were rep[laced by Malachite and finally replaced by the blue Chrysocolla. The delicate array of crystals is on a Gossan matrix and in excellent condition despite the fragility. The discovery of this material made big news in the mineral world. This is a choice example with particularly distinct crystal shapes well presented.
