An incredible, crazy little Tsumeb thumbnail! A ball-like cluster of Calcite rhombs most of which are colored a cadmium yellow. In some other zones the color is deep red from included needle crystals of Chalcotrichite and a few are green from included Malachite. Malachite balls in chains along some areas add a nice green accent making a bright, very colorful specimen. In perfect condition damage wise, this is crystalized all around, a floater. It is not clear what is causing the Cadmium yellow color, it is not typical at all. Ex Hitchings collection dating to mid 1960 vintage. Unique.
Red Beryl on Rhyolite
Wah Wah Mts, Beaver County
1.6 x 1.2 x .7 CM (thumbnail)
Worldwide mix summer
A bright red thumbnail with rich color saturation and sharp form. The Beryl is translucent and in parts transparent. Doubly terminated (crudely on one end) the prism has a crack near the bottom that seems to be natural separation and the related chipping is not damage per se, the crystal is well anchored in this way to the matrix. Red Beryls (sometimes called red Emeralds) are still only found at this one locality and can be incredibly pricy. This a very good value for the specie.
Transparent cube, slightly elongated with beveled edges and light purple color. From the small digs at the Llamas site, this has both clear and lightly frosted faces, no damage but some contacts that can be seen through the cube from different angles. We are very impressed with the quality of these Fluorites, they are one of the best recent finds for the specie.
A superb example of the gem clear pink Apatites from the Xuebaoding mountain find of 2004. These Apatites are clustered in a chain nestled in a well crystalized vug of Muscovite. The edges of the specimen are also decorated with clusters of small clear Calcite crystals which are quite uncommon in this locale. We have handled several of these Apatites and this is one of the very best, the color and clarity are especially fine. Overall a very esthetic presentation, damage free and these Apatites are also vividly fluorescent.
Gem clear sharp Cognac color Topaz crystals from the prolific Thomas Mountains. This piece is much more clear than most we see from the locale and has the desirable light sherry or cognac color (depending on your preferences). Formerly in the Les Hitchings collection. A fine thumbnail in excellent condition and choice form, a Utah classic.
Calcite crystals richly included by Copper in branching clusters which gives the Calcite a distinctive color. A very old Dartmouth College Museum and a Carl Bentley labels are included. some Copper is seen outside of the Calcite as well. Choice, minimal damage on outer edges but all the main Calcite is clean and undamaged. A good USA classic copper specimen that is far more affordable than typical.
Small thumbnail but with bright red color, transparent to translucent and with fine luster. From a one time find during the construction of an interstate junction, this was collected by the late Larry White in 1980 and was in his collection since. This was the example with the best red color and luster, the others were more pale or orange. The twinning is more evident on close examination and the Chabazite is typically flattened in habit. Choice and almost never available
Barite- delicate blue bladed
Jebel Ouichane, Beni Bou Ifrour, Nador
6 x 4.4 x 3.7CM (cabinet)
Worldwide mix summer
For the past 2 years there have been some very attractive blue Barites coming from Jebel Ouichane, these have been big news in the mineral world. However, most are quite damaged and those with great condition and fine esthetics are quite prized. This piece is very fine, has minimal minor edge chipping (very rare) and the form, color and presentation are excellent. A very strong piece with a good balance of form and condition. Selected from hundreds of good pieces as a top example. We have several others in this size range at lower prices but for display quality this is far better and more impressive in person.
