A complex small specimen with two main large Bismuthinite crystals that are covered with tiny crystals of Stannite and Marcasite. The specimen also has areas of Chalcopyrite as well as some tiny needle crystals of Bismuthinite that seems to be a later generation. A choice example of the thicker type of Bismuthinite crystals and a nice association of these two Sulfides. From a recent find that was premiered in Munich in October 2019.
Bournonite - Cogswheel type crystals
Colavi Mine, Machacamarca district, Cornello Saavedra Province
3.1 x 2.6 x 2.4 CM (small miniature/ large thumbnail (toenail))
A fine complete cogswheel cluster of Bournonite crystals that is perfect on all sides, undamaged and with classic gunmetal luster. Bournonite is a delicate mineral and perfect clusters of this sort are quite rare. A tiny bit of adhering matrix gives some nice contrast. This is a very fine and unusually sharp specimen from Bolivia that really looks just like a vintage Herodsfoot specimen. From recent mining this is obviously far less expensive than the English classics!
A delicate slender scepter of well formed Amethyst rises from a cluster of smaller crystals. Very fine esthetics and good color in perfect condition. The scepter is included by red needles of Rutile best seen in the clear parts of the head. This specimen also has the rare hexagonal hole or negative crystal in the top of the termination, this is especially impressive with magnification. Despite the small size this has a strong visual impact and is especially choice on close examination.
Scheelite with Fluorite
Dongpo Mine, Yizhang County, Chenzohou prefecture
3.7 x 2.8 x 2.3 CM (miniature)
Sharp white octahedral Scheelites cover most of this matrix along with a sharp Fluorite and some scattered Calcite crystals. In fine condition from the Dongpo mine, a locality better known for large Fluorites. This is from a small find made this fall, these are the first Scheelites I have seen from Dongpo, It has some similarities to an older find at Huangshaping mine not very far away.
A complete six ray star of golden Rutile needles radiating from a flat bright Hematite crtystal. Two small additional Hematites with Rutile are also present.Fine Brazilian Rutile twins on Hematite crystals are one of the mineral kingdoms wonders. This can be displayed from either side though the view shown is my preference. A choice textbook example of this wonderful crystal habit.
Barite - Classic locale
Pohla Mine, Schwarzenberg District
6.1 x 4 x 3.6 CM (cabinet)
A very attractive Pohla Barite showing the recognizable form of a chisel-tip termination and gemmy golden tops. The very glassy prisms also show the dark inclusions in the lower sections that give a nice contrast. The tips are fully transparent and the main crystal is doubly terminated. Displays well, this looks in good condition but is not perfect (very few are when examined closely) this has some edge chipping seen with magnification that also helps keep the price low. While not for perfectionists it is still a pretty example from a famed German locality and affordable.
A super well formed Variscite from an area of Brazil we see very few minerals from, Matto Grosso, Better known for well crystalized Gold, this province has occasionally produced some impressive small spheres of Variscite. This has top color is gemmy clear and perfect, perched on a large quartz matrix. This can be trimmed of course (we can do so if requested) but as is the matrix shows well the context and setting of this remarkable Phosphate.
Brilliant metallic luster which is impossible to really appreciate in any photograph, from the great Madan mining region. Very sharp, perfect crystals with no damage contrast with the sparkling white matrix. The crystals here have several habits and are mostly modified cubo-octahedral. This particular mine yeilded some of the best Galena specimens found over the past sebveral years and the luster as in this piece can be incredible. An excellent value for the esthetics and quality.
