Mimetite with Wulfenite
Mina Ojuela, Mapimi
6.4 x 2.8 x 2.3 CM (cabinet)
Mina Oujela has been working for centuries and still has surprising finds every so often. Last year the bright Mimetites were big news, many as good as the best San Pedro pieces and with great form. Most were very damaged but some were of much better quality than the mine run. This piece is quite good, has the desirable "wet" luster, bright yellow color and a delicate form. There is also a scattering of wulfenite blades. It is not damage free but in far better condition than 99.9 percent (edges have some chipping, some tiny bruises that are not easy to see), so its not for a perfectionist. Otherwise this displays great, has killer form, great color and is far more affordable than usual for this quality.
From a new, exciting small find of bright Rhodochrosite from the famed N'Chwanning Mine. This locale is world famed for the great finds made over 20 years ago. Good pieces from the old pockets are now some of the most expensive mineral specimens on the planet. The new zone was very small, it had a similar look (but with some differences) to some earlier finds. The color is a deep pink-red that can be almost electric under some lighting.
This is a fine example with distinctive, sharp spheres of bright, sparkling Rhodo. Very good display quality that looks great from several angles.
Prehnite, Stellerite & Epidote
Diamonkara, Bendougou Diako, Bafoulabe Circle
4.2 x 3.7 x 2.9 CM (miniature)
A very esthetic surprise from recent finds in Mali, yellow and green Prehnites with associated Epidote in a colorful arrangement. The Prehnites are distinctively crystallized and have great 3 dimensional form, the Stellerites were recently identified by x ray, they look soemwhat like Stilbite. Very nice luster and a great value as Mali is now much less productive.
Barite on Quartz
Jinkouhe town, Ebian
7.7 x 5.2 x 2.5 CM (cabinet)
pre Tucson 2015 update
A delicate mineral sculpture with very sharp form. This presents outstanding form and arrangement that is unusually eyecatching for a colorless specimen! Older (about 2004) Chinese specimen with gemmy Barites some of which have white phantoms. The condition is pristine and that is quite amazing given the delicacy of this piece.
Epidote & Prehnite
5.9 x 4.6 x 3 CM (cabinet)
The Mali Prehnites with Epidote can be wonderfully esthetic and this is great example of fine form and color. Even though the location has been very productive for a few years it now seems to be tapering off. The better pieces from this find are destined to appreciate and become classics. Meanwhile this is quite affordable for such a pretty and pristine specimen.
Wenshan County, Wenshan Autonomous Prefecture
9 x 7 x 5.5 CM (cabinet)
A rich and very colorful example of the Hemimorphite from the earliest find at Wenshan. The form and condition are excellent and the more recent finds did not have this habit. Nice blue-green Hemimorphites from classic locales can be very expensive but the better Chinese specimens are often more attractive with much less cost
Rhodochrosite on Fluorite
Lame (Lamo) Zn-CU deposit, Dachang, Nandan, Hechi Prefecture
Guangxi Autonomous Region,
4.8 x 3.5 x 2.5 (miniature)
A very pretty, unusual Rhodochrosite from an unusual locale. Crystals perched on delicate clusters of small Fluorites, all of which are growing on Quartz crystals in an esthetic array. Fine condition and with great display qualities, this is a very fine miniature and far better in person.
A sparkling bright "sugar frosted" Barite from the famed (but small) sugarbowl pocket found about 15 years ago. A very nice example with several good angles of display- the backside is cleaved but the front is in good shape. Already a classic find, these have disappeared from the market and there were never many of them.
