Waisanen Quarry, Greenwood, Oxford County
2 x 1.6 x 1.4 CM (thumbnail)
A thumbnail cluster of Hydroxylherderite crystals up to 1.6 CM in size. This specimen was collected in the mid sixties by Les Hitchings. The Waisanen Quarry is part of the legendary Oxford County, Maine pegmatite zone and is well known to local collectors but less so farther afield. The quarry has yielded some many rare minerals, many Phosphates and and occasional gem crystal but is best known for the Herderites. A nice thumbnail, these are not often available.
