Grossular v. Hessonite
Colle del Paschietto, Balme, Ala Valley, Lanzo, Turin
5 x 3.8 x 3 CM (small cabinet/ large miniature)
An old Garnet specimen from the Piedmont that has nice light cinnamon brown Grossular on a contrasting white Feldspar. This locality is very close to the metropolitan city of Turin, in the Ala valley. Ex Sommondetti collection, this is in good condition, the main Garnets are perfect and are up to 1 CM diameter. The Rodingite outcrops of the Piedmont are justly famed for their Epidote, Vesuvianite and especially Garnets. The Garnet color is not typical and the matrix is very unusual as it is usually a Clinoclore and Rodingite mixture.
