Kyanite on Quartz
stock #20.1-295
Barra do Salinas Mining District, Coronel Murta
Minas Gerais, Brazil
12.5 x 7.9 x 4.2 CM (cabinet)
price: $1200

Terminated and gemmy, bright blue Kyanite crystals are well exposed on a Quartz matrix. The Kyanites are transparent and most have a deeper blue "racing stripe" down the center of the flat blades. Many of the crystals are doubly terminated and reach 10 CM long. Kyanite is a fairly common mineral but it is certainly not common in such an esthetic, delicate array. Exceptional color and quality, it is hard to capture the luster of the crystals in photographs. When this is backlit the intense blue color is incredible.
Elbaite - gem-clear Indicolite
stock #20.1-294
Barra do Salinas Mining District, Coronel Murta
Minas Gerais, Brazil
2.6 x .7 x .5 CM (thumbnail)
price: $150

Deep blue transparent Indicolite crystal with a contrasting termination. An older specimen (1960's) this has a subtle zoning but is mostly a consistent blue color. In choice condition, this is an attractive thumbnail with complete termination and glassy luster.
Elbaite - Indicolite
stock #17.1-549
Barra do Salinas Mining District, Coronel Murta
Minas Gerais, Brazil
4.9 x 3.5 x 3.4 CM (miniature)
price: $1450
Spring 2020

A complex dark Tourmaline crystal that when backlit explodes with an intense deep indigo blue with a zone of green on the edges. From old finds at the remarkable locality of Barra do Salinas which is well known for very colorful and often deeply etched gem crystals. This specimen is the termination of complex prism, the faces are lustrous and the overall weight is 78 Grams, nearly all of good gem grade. There is old edge chipping most of which has been recrystallized, but despite the imperfections the color and luster make this a striking piece. Without any backlighting this is fairly dark and may look like a schorl at first, but when well lit the color is outstanding.
Elbaite - ex Smale, dark gem Tourmaline
stock #8.AE-685
Barra do Salinas Mining District, Coronel Murta
Minas Gerais, Brazil
7.2 x 2.9 x 2.2 CM (cabinet)
price: $2750
Spring 2019

A fine large old Tourmaline crystal from Barra de Salinas, formerly in the famed Smale collection. Deep green color, excellent gem clarity this weighs 84 grams. Best displayed with some backlighting as it is dark without. The complex termination is a series of staggered chisel tips looking like a skyline. The front display side is in very good condition, the backside (last photo) has contacts/chipping that are not seen from the front or sides. The architectural structure of the main prism, very glassy luster and deep striations makes this stand out as a choice Brazilian gem.
Elbaite - curved, rehealed crystal
stock #18.1-197
Barra do Salinas Mining District, Coronel Murta
Minas Gerais, Brazil
3.8 x 3. 2.8 CM (miniature)
price: $390
Spring update

An older, fat and substantial Elbaite crystal with a slight curve where it has rehealed. Multi color, 48 grams and with a white fibrous zone at the bend point. There is scattered bits of Clevelandite on a few faces. Good luster and quite sharp complex termination. Better in person too.
Elbaite -slightly curved crystal
stock #AX-19-100
Barra do Salinas Mining District, Coronel Murta
Minas Gerais, Brazil
7.2 x 2.2 x 1.2 CM (cabinet)
price: $325
Post Tucson 2015

A darker bottle green Tourmaline with a subtle curve, color gradation and complete termination. 34.5 Grams in heft, there is an area of fibrous (cat's eye) crystal in the curve zone where this crystal has had some natural breaks and rehealing. There is one repair at that point as well. A good, sizable, affordable crystal from a famed locale in good condition as seen.
HOLD Tourmaline (Elbaite)
stock #HOLD 8-DK-162
Barra do Salinas Mining District, Coronel Murta
Minas Gerais, Brazil
5.9 x 4.5 CM (cabinet)
price: $750

A big, fat multi colored parallel growth Elbaite crystal with distinct zoning. Good color -this would cut some large and fine cats eye gems, this is also fluorescent and has two distinct color zones. This has been photographed for an upcoming article on Fl. Tourmaline. Real nice luster and undamaged except at the attachment point. A good value for a large and unusual Elbaite.
