A pair of intense blue terminated Kyanite crystals are joined in a V form. The Kyanites are translucent on the edges and one has a dark blue "racing stripe" that runs along the C axis. In fine condition and with deepest indigo color these are modern classics,. This specimen is a lot better in person and the color is much richer than the usual.

Spring update

An older, fat and substantial Elbaite crystal with a slight curve where it has rehealed. Multi color, 48 grams and with a white fibrous zone at the bend point. There is scattered bits of Clevelandite on a few faces. Good luster and quite sharp complex termination. Better in person too.

Barra de Salinas Mining District, Coronel Murta
Minas Gerais, Brazil

Post Tucson 2015

A darker bottle green Tourmaline with a subtle curve, color gradation and complete termination. 34.5 Grams in heft, there is an area of fibrous (cats eye) crystal in the curve zone where this crystal has had some natural breaks and rehealing. There is one repair at that point as well. A good, sizable, affordable crystal from a famed locale in good condition as seen.
Elbaite- large dark green Tourmaline with
stock #10.1-450
Barra de Salinas Mining District, Coronel Murta
Minas Gerais, Brazil
9.9 x 2.2 x 2 CM (cabinet)
price: $760
pre Tucson 2015 update

A very lustrous, glassy tourmaline that has zoning of dark-mid green to a nearly black green. It also sports a fibrous "cats eye" type structure best seen near the base. An older Schortmann's Minerals specimen (with label) that dates this back to the 1940's. Classic habit and form from Barra Do Salinas, few of these survived cutting as the cats eyes they show were quite desirable. Very minor chipping is noted with magnification but the overall quality is fine. The complex multiple terminations and deep striations give this a eyecatching quality.
Tourmaline (Gemmy Elbaite)
stock #8 -BRA-685
Barra de Salinas Mining District, Coronel Murta
Minas Gerais, Brazil
7.5 x 2.9 CM (cabinet)
price: $2400

A big, glassy gem crystal of rich deep green color and attractive form. The termination is a complex series of separate peaks that looks much like a cityscape. Formerly in the Smale collection, the crystal looks rather dark until it is backlit and it really glows a rich deep green color. The front and sides present well, the rear has some chipping (that's why its the rear) which is not visible from the display side. A very fine older Barra de Salinas piece, probably worth more as gem rough!
Tourmaline (Elbaite)
stock #8 DK-162
Barra de Salinas Mining District, Coronel Murta
Minas Gerais, Brazil
5.9 x 4.5 CM (cabinet)
price: $750

A big, fat multi colored parrelel growth Elbaite crystal with distinct zoning. Good color -this would cut some large and fine cats eye gems, this is also fluorescent and has two distinct color zones. This has been photographed for an upcoming article on Fl. Tourmaline. Real nice luster and undamaged except at the attachment point . A good value for a large and unusual Elbaite.
