Dec 2018

A transparent gem crystal of bright red Rhodo from the classic N Chwanning #1 mine. This is part of a small find made late last year, the result of years of digging in an attempt to find more of the legendary scalenohedral Rhodos last found over thirty years ago. Those are now some of the most highly prized mineral specimens in the world. This new find was small as were most of the specimens, but the quality was excellent. The Rhodo crystals are perfect, lustrous and with top intense red. This specimen has a series of face modifications not seen in older materials. Condition is perfect, very few of the old find were so completely undamaged. Big display impact for the small size.

Dec 2018

A choice and brilliant thumbnail of complex, gem grade Rhodochrosite. This is part of a small find made late last year at the famed Nchwaning #1 mine. The result of years of digging in an attempt to find more of the legendary scalenohedral gem clear Rhodos last produced over thirty years ago. Those are now some of the most highly prized mineral specimens in the world. This new find was small but the quality was excellent. The Rhodo crystals are small but perfect, lustrous and with top intense red. This specimen has a mix of habits and forms all with a luster that is almost impossibly bright, best appreciated in person. A few tiny Hematite crystals are scattered on the piece as well otherwise this is all pure gem Rhodochrosite. We had the opportunity to select a few of the very best pieces from the find as they were unveiled at the Munich show, this is one of them.

Inesite with Barite
stock #A-14-326
N'chwaning Mine, Kalahari Fields, Kuruman
Northern Cape Province, South Africa
6.6 x 5.4 x 4.2 (cabinet)
price: $1150
Pre Holiday 2017

A dense mat of sharp pink to orange Inesite crystals covers most of a matrix which also hosts several clear Barite crystals. In excellent condition, from the classic NChwaning mine, this has fine luster and displays super well. The find of Inesite more than a decade ago has not been repeated, these rank as some of the best specimens ever found. This is a top percentile specimen, with strong display impact. Choice, and now very rare on the market.
Brucite on Andradite
stock #16.1-326
N'chwaning Mine, Kalahari Fields, Kuruman
Northern Cape Province, South Africa
7.8 x 6.4 3.2 CM (cabinet)
price: $700
Spring 2017

A pearly blue ball of Brucite crystals sits neatly on top of a contrasting Andradite matrix. An attractive setting for this usually unimpressive mineral, this is quite esthetic and in fine condition. The matrix is well crystalized on all sides, so it is a floater and the Garnets are especially lustrous on the back side. This would be a really nice specimen of Andradite on its own, but with the Brucite this is especially choice.
Olmiite with Calcite
stock #14-14-260
N'chwaning Mine, Kalahari Fields, Kuruman
Kuruman, South Africa
9 x 6.8 x 6 CM (cabinet)
price: $1250
Spring 2014

A large and esthetic 3-D cluster of Olmiite in "wet look" aggregates with a pinkish color. Far better that the average, this is an even more special specimen due to the well placed clear clusters of Calcites in parallel growth. The calcite is in doubly terminated prisms that look very much like quartz and have similar glassy luster. Olmiite was unknown as a mineral until 2006, it is only found at this one location worldwide. This piece displays well, is undamaged and presents from several angles.
Andradite with Calcite
stock #Alec-14-385
N'chwaning Mine, Kalahari Fields, Kuruman
Northern Cape Province, South Africa
2.8 x 2.5 x 1.4 CM (thumbnail)
price: $330
Spring 2014

An unusually good, sizable crystal aggregate of Kalihari Andradite Garnet. The great NChwaning mine is famous for its red colored minerals, especially the Rhodochrosites. Many other less colorful species from here are dusted with tiny bright red Andradites, typically micro crystals. This piece shows well formed distinct and colorful crystals very sizable not like what is usually seen. In excellent condition.
Thaumasite (fine large gem crystals)
stock #A14-370
N'chwaning Mine, Kalahari Fields, Kuruman
Northern Cape Province, South Africa
1.7 x .9 CM (thumbnail)
price: $300
Spring 2014

Very fine, glass clear, sharp, undamaged Thaumasite with a light yellow green color and no visible point of contact. This is the much rarer calcium silicate related to ettringite that was only been found once in such perfect, large crystals. Far better than average sharpness and clarity for this find.
