Stibnite- tabular crystals
7.6 x 6.2 x 3.4 CM (cabinet)
Choice old Cavnic Stibnite with the rare type of flattened crystals. Sharp and clean, fine metallic luster and very three dimensional. These mines are closed and specimens of this quality are not often available. Even more impressive in person.
Colorful and with a flowerlike form, this is an excellent Calcite from the famed Cavnic mine of Romania. Sharp scalenohedral crystals radiating in a spherical mass have been coated with small Pyrite crystals and have internal coloring perhaps from Hematite. The back of the mass is broken where it was removed but the front display side is quite fine and undamaged. Lots of impact and far better in person.
A nicely composed, lustrous and sharp Roumanian specimen from the classic Cavnic mines. Since this locality closed the unique habits of Cavnic Stibnites have become sought after. This is in very good condition overall, but for a perfectionsist this is not perfect. Edge damage where this was removed is noted, magnification reveals more tiny chips and contacts elsewhere but most are less than a mm in size. Some rough looking terminations are not damaged but are the more hackly type nestled in with the prismatic ones. The main areas are mostly undamaged, and the most prominent crystals are fine. This displays well the rare flat-habit metallic Stibnites in an esthetic array on contrasting matrix. Affordable with nice form and reasonable shape for and older, delicate mineral.
