SOLD Red Beryl (Twinned?)
stock #SOLD 13.1-333
.9 x .8 x .7 CM (thumbnail)
A doubly terminated red Beryl (Bixbite) from the Thomas Range that looks like a true penetration twin. Twinning in Beryl is very rare, some writers say it never occurs, most often twins are actually joined parallel growths . This specimen certainly looks like an actual twin, the structure is correct and the original collector who had this specimen had exhibited it widely in his displays of twin types. We have not had an xray study done but are passing this on with a question mark on the twinning question. For the right collector this can be a fun bit of research and is a nice Beryl no matter what the form is. The crystal is complete and has no damage but a few micro contacts and natural pitting on edges. Red Beryl is of course rare itself and a twinned specimen (if so) is quite special.
Gem clear sharp Cognac color Topaz crystals from the prolific Thomas Mountains. This piece is much more clear than most we see from the locale and has the desirable light sherry or cognac color (depending on your preferences). Formerly in the Les Hitchings collection. A fine thumbnail in excellent condition and choice form, a Utah classic.
Bixbyite on Topaz
2.6 x 2.2 x 1.7 CM (thumbnail)
Bixbyite crystals with some complex faces up to 1.4 CM across on contrasting Topaz crystals. The Topaz is heavily included as is typical and several of the Bixbyite faces have a dusting of micro Topaz which are very clear. A very nice representative thumbnail of this classic locale. Some chipping seen with magnification mostly on edges, some crudeness to crystals too but still lustrous and sizable.
stock #8 UT THUMB 788
2.9 x 2.7 CM (thumbnail)
A lusterous thumbnail with several sizable and sharp bixbyites, on a matrix of topaz (cystallized with "sand" inclusions). The crystals all have some contacting and included topaz and the matrix topaz is somewhat crude. Despite this the largest crystal of Bixbyite is sizable at 1.4 CM and very bright, and this is well over the average in general quality.
3.9 x 1.5 CM (small miniature/ large thumbnail (toenail))
A very clean, sharp and clear sherry color Topaz that is representative of the better quality gem crystals that the Thomas Mts have produced. Good value for a bright, sparkly toenail!
