Spring update

Classic Chumar style pink Apatite with a sharp, gemmy crystal well positioned on minimal matrix. Super glassy luster and good transparency. Apatite on Muscovite
stock #17.1-841
Chumar Bakhoor, Hunza Valley
Gilgit, Northern Areas, Pakistan
5.5 x 4.5 x 4.1 CM (cabinet)
price: $680

A prism of pink Apatite (Fluorapatite or Apatite-CaF)is nestled in a Muscovite matrix. The crystal is 2.1 CM across and has distinctive modifications of the edges of the termination. From the earlier finds of Apatite at Chumar Bakhoor, this is in excellent condition. Esthetic contrast with the matrix, the Apatite looks fine from all angles.

Fluorapatite on Quartz and Cookeite
stock #A7-219-(536)
Harvard Quarry, Greenwood, Oxford County
Maine, United States
7 x 3.1 x 2.8 CM (cabinet)
price: $1450
Pre Holiday 2017

Attractive and with an unusual esthetic, this is a densely packed matrix of lilac color Apatite. An older specimen from the classic Harvard Quarry in Maine, The druzy Quartz matrix hosts hundreds of small but perfect Apatites most being doubly terminated. In perfect condition and showing well the paragenesis of this locale, this was in the collection of the late Larry White. Two older labels give the locality as Mt Apatite (a more famous locale often incorrectly cited) but those labels are not correct, it is confirmed by Dr. Carl Francis and others as absolutely a classic Harvard piece. Choice and very rare in such fine quality.

Fluorapatite (Apatite CaF) classic locale
stock #17.1-694
Pulsifer Quarry, Mount Apatite District, Auburn
Maine, United States
2 x 1.3 x 1.2 CM (thumbnail)
price: $330
Pre Holiday 2017

A classic and esthetic Pulsifer Apatite with the distinctive habit crystals. From the vintage Terry Szenics mining project, there is minimal matrix here, mostly all purple Apatite with some minor Lepidolite. Much better than average with very good form and naked eye appeal but this is not a specimen for perfectionists. There is some edge wear and smaller crystals are chipped or broken on the base area. The price reflects this but still the overall quality is far better than typical. These Apatites are legendary, now very scarce in this level of quality.

Fluorapatite (Apatite CaF) hollow tube
stock #17.1-687
Sapo Mine, Goiabeira
Minas Gerais, Brazil
10.1 x 3.6 x 2.7 CM (cabinet)
price: $1350
Pre Holiday 2017

An excellent Apatite crystal cluster from the older finds at the Sapo mine. Far better than most that came out, The color and luster and condition are first rate. These amazing but odd habit Apatites have had many names (Crullers, Snakes, Tubes, Medusas etc) and are fantastic examples of epitaxial growth; These have prisms in a chain or parallel growth that is built around a hollow tube composed of many stacked crystals. A really fine, textbook quality specimen in excellent condition. There is a separate smaller branch growth and very good transparency, color and luster on this. No damage or repairs which is rare in any piece of this size, this is even better in person, to me this is a real mineralogical marvel.

Apatite (Fluorapatite) with Byssolite inclusions
stock #17.1-683
Ganadao (Gandahab) Mohmand Agency
FATA Federally Administered Tribal Areas, Pakistan
4 x 2.7 x 1.2 CM (miniature)
price: $600
Pre Holiday 2017

A complete, sharp transparent alpine style Apatite prism loaded with Byssolite needles that give the transparent colorless crystal a deep green hue. Very similar in form and look to Austrian and other European cleft Apatite. There is no damage and the whole is a floater with no point of attachment. Some of the edges show very complex multi faced crystallization and a few conjoined smaller crystals.

Apatite -CaF (Fluorapatite)
stock #8.1-458A
Cerro de Mercado, Victoria de Durango
Durango, Mexico
4.9 x 3.5 x 3.2 CM (miniature)
price: $150
Pre Holiday 2017

An older Apatite from Cerro de Mercado that presents a fine 3.5 CM gemmy crystal well exposed on matrix. This locale was a prolific source of these Apatites although most were much less clear than this and few on matrix. Rich yellow-green (asparagus) color. A choice piece in good condition that looks better in person. One old rehealed break is seen in the main crystal. A nice example.

SOLD Fluorapatite- Gemmy blue, doubly terminated
stock #SOLD AX-30-037
Slyudyanka, Lake Baikal area
Irkutskaya Oblast, Prebaikalia, Russia
5.8 X 3.4 X 2.1 (cabinet)
price: $0
Spring 2017

A complete crystal of Apatite that is bright blue to blue-green, is transparent in places, and doubly terminated. No damage but there are some contacts and "melting" on one edge. Very glassy luster and really choice for this location. There are several areas that could be faceted but much of the interior has some veils and inclusions. Ex. Tom Fitzpatrick collection, collected over 20 years ago
