Calcite enclosing Hematite (2 generations)
stock #11.1-37W
Santa Eulalia, Aquiles Serdan
Chihuahua, Mexico
7.5 x 5.6 CM (cabinet)
price: $360

From a small find in the 1970's this calcite is very esthetic and colorful. The matrix is a sparkling white to light yellow druse of Calcite covered with hills of deep red to black drusy crystals. A single later generation clear crystal is perched on one side and all is well-arranged and eye-catching. A very pretty display quality specimen that is uncommon, unusual, undamaged and still affordably priced.

Calcite (frosted) on Quartz
stock #9.1-258
Rossie Lead Mine, St. Lawrence Co.
New York, United States
4.8 x 4 CM (miniature)
price: $250

From the classic old locality of Rossie that was active from 1830 to 1860. A nicely frosted main crystal with a few smaller on the sides sits on a Quartz matrix. No damage, good clarity and some internal rainbows . This seems to be an untwinned crystal that was less common at Rossie. Calcites from here were used in many crystallographic illustrations and studies in the classic literature. These are rarely available now.

twinned Calcite on Sphalerite
stock #8.1-270
Elmwood Mine, Carthage, Smith County
Tennessee, United States
12 x 10 CM (cabinet)
price: $950

Perfect jewel-like amber cognac color Calcites (largest is 7.7 CM) set on a dark red to black matrix of crystallized Sphalerite. No damage and only one tiny contact on one of the smaller Calcites, this is a pristine piece that has top notch luster. The main crystal is the sort of twin sometimes described as a "frog" where one half of the twinned pair develops selectively and makes a frog-like crystal. An Elmwood classic that is far better than you could usually expect in this price range.

Calcite with minor Realgar
stock #6.2-064
Shimen (Jiepiayu) Mine, Shimen County, Changde Prefecture
Hunan Province, China
14.5 x 13.5 x 11 CM (cabinet)
price: $485

A substantial cluster of fine Calcites in very good condition and with great translucence and some transparency. The largest crystal is 13 CM and the color is a light yellow to amber ranging to white. A good sized cabinet piece this has several possible display sides.

Calcite
stock #6.2-057
Shimen (Jiepiayu) Mine, Shimen County, Changde Prefecture
Hunan Province, China
9 x 5.5 CM (cabinet)
price: $375

A single sharp, gemmy Calcite crystal that has a light amber color and is in outstanding condition. Great form and luster, the clarity at the tip is very good. Shimen has produced some very fine Calcites, among the world's best they are still a bargain compared with most other locations.

Calcite with realgar
stock #5.1-085
Shimen (Jiepiayu) Mine, Shimen County, Changde Prefecture
Hunan Province, China
10 x 7.4 cm (cabinet)
price: $450

A delicate, thin, tapering (7.9 CM) single calcite rises above the smaller crystals. Gemmy in places and clear enough to clearly show the bright red Realgar crystals inside. A very tiny flaw at the tip is only visible from one side. Even so, this is a top display calcite at a reasonable price.

Calcite with minor Realgar
stock #5.1-083
Shimen (Jiepiayu) Mine, Shimen County, Changde Prefecture
Hunan Province, China
17x13 cm (cabinet)
price: $1200

A perfect condition large (11.5 cm) twin calcite sits esthetically on top of a mound of smaller calcites and intermingled tiny realgar crystals. All on a calcite matrix, a great example of the best quality from this find, the smaller crystals have distinctive realgar phantoms. A very attractive large cabinet piece!
