Exceptional quality Alaskan Garnet well exposed on contrasting schist. Esthetic old specimen with a quality rarely seen, the largest Almandine is 2.7 CM. In fine condition, the crystals show textbook typical modifications and have a rich purple-red color. A classic US location.

Alaska, United States
7.3 x 5.9 x 4.1 CM (cabinet)

Winter 2016-17

A fine classic Epidote from Green Monster that was collected by Ed Over, formerly in the Warren Johansson collection. From the legendary find by Over more than 70 years ago, this has fine doubly terminated Epidote crystals over 4 CM in size. Nicely sprinkled with Quartz crystals some of which have green Epidote inclusions. In excellent condition, a very choice specimen that is more impressive in person.

Epidote and Quartz
stock #9.1-354
Green Monster Mountain, Prince of Wales Island, Prince of Wales Island
Alaska, United States
8.8 x 4.8 CM (cabinet)
price: $800

An American classic, old style Epidote on quartz from Prince of Wales Island, Alaska. One of the harshest collecting areas in the USA, this site has been worked sporadically for almost 100 years. This is a beautiful example of why folks still try to go there. Displays well on either side, this has 2 main crystals to just over 4 CM that show good form and luster. Fine condition overall and a good value.
Almandine (Garnet) on Schist
stock #10.1-337
Wrangell Garnet mine, Petersburg District,Wrangell Petersburg District
Alaska, United States
9.8 x 7.1 CM (cabinet)
price: $250

From a classic US locality this is a very fine example of highly lustrous Almandines in a good sized plate of Schist. This was once a prolific locale but little to nothing is seen now. The largest crystal is 2.3 CM. With strong lighting the deep rich red color is seen but at first glance these are dark, almost black. Excellent form and contrast, there is some contacting and edge chipping (probably a result of in-situ events, and not "mishandling") This is still a very displayable specimen with much better quality than is typical.
