Elbaite -gem Tourmaline
Usakos, Karibib District
2.7 x .9 x .9 CM (thumbnail)
A single, doubly terminated and gemmy clear Elbaite crystal from the Karibib. Namibian gem Tourmaline of any quality has become quite uncommon, it was last being found almost 20 years ago. Complete and in nice condition this one shows the striated faces and flat terminations that is typical of these Karibib crystals. Nearly all facet grade, the interior is transparent and clear deep green.
Boltwoodite on Calcite
Goanikontes Claim, Goanikontes, Arandis
10 x 8.4 x 5.2 CM (cabinet)
An especially choice large specimen of Boltwoodite on a contrasting dark brown druse of Calcite. Protected by this shallow pocket, the radiating clusters of sharp bright yellow to orange needles are in excellent condition as seen. The radiating areas are about 1 CM across which is larger than typical as well. Special arrangements are needed in shipping or this can be delivered in person at a mineral show. Fine overall esthetics and rich density of Boltwoodite on matrix make this a top specimen for the specie.
Rounded complex Fluorite crystals are perched all over a jumbled mass of black Schorl. Some gemmy lustrous Goshenite (white) Beryl crystals are also present. The whole is especially esthetic and comes from a special find about 7 years ago. The major pockets found in the Erongos seem to be unique as each has an individual character and mineral mix that is different from other pockets. This is an especially attractive Fluorite specimen, far better in person, in fine condition and displaying well from any side or angle.
Okatjimukulu Farm 56, Karibib Region
3.1 x 3 x 1.7 CM (small miniature/ large thumbnail (toenail))
Flattened hexagonal crystal of deep purple zoned Apatite without matrix. From the finds several years back in the Karibib area of Namibia, this has an etched, frosted luster and good translucency. The crystal is not complete on all edges (typical for this find) but it is undamaged and shows complex recrystallization on some edges. The color is super intense in person, a very nice sizable purple Apatite.
Andradite var Demantoid
Tubussis Farm 22, Daures
6.2 x 5.4 x 4.2 CM (cabinet)
A fine cluster of stacked Demantoid Garnets that contrasts well with the matrix. Excellent color and luster, the main Garnets are 2.6 CM tall and in fine condition. No damage seen even under high magnification. The matrix is a mix of Quartz, Calcite and Prehnite, this holds several smaller Andradites as well. These were big mineral news a few years ago when they were more available, these are now quite scarce.
A bizzare, unique, rare but attractive Aquamarine. From the Erongo Mountains, (Hohenstien Massif) this is a complete, doubly terminated crystal. The flat termination is typical although in this case the corners have modified faces. The real interest is the other termination that is a series of hexagonal steps that are perfectly centered like a stairway or a turret. The 4 main steps or platforms are very flat and some edges have a little etching, the whole is therefore a reversed scepter. Some minor contacting/chipping is noted but overall the condition is excellent. A good display piece but especially a great addition for a suite of Namibian/ Erongo minerals, Beryls or exotic crystal forms.
Fluorite -enclosing Shorl
Erongo Mountain, Karibib
3.5 x 3.4 x 2.4 CM (small miniature/ large thumbnail (toenail))
The Erongo Mountains sometimes produce some very exotic and amazing Fluorites. This is an excellent example with stacked "melted look" crystals completely enclosing crystals and sprays of Schorl. The Fluorites are all Spinel twinned, the highly etched surface gives an unusual look and the whole piece is simply bizarre. In fine condition a neat small miniature.
Fluorite on Microcline
Hohenstein Massif, Omaruru District
6.8 x 5.8 x 3.1 CM (cabinet)
Late Summer 2018
A sculptural matrix hosts well exposed octahedral Fluorites from Erongo. The Fluorites are a dark green and quite translucent (they glow with a good backlight, which also reveals a dark purple core) A different sort of look and esthetic presentation, this display well from any angle. No visible damage to the Fluorites.
