Buskerud, Norway
2.5 x 1.5 x 1 CM (thumbnail)

Spring 2020

A stout, well formed Silver wire in ramshorn form from Kongsberg. For some reason, Kongsberg Silvers tend to be thicker, rope-like wires of this sort, the form is unlike most other localities. A killer thumbnail that looks fine from any side, ex Mario Pauwels collection. Kongsberg is of course a legendary Silver locality, which started in 1623 and peaked in the 1770 era. Long closed now but this region produced incredible quantities of Silver for centuries. Some huge wires were found long ago as thick as an arm. those are now priceless treasures seen in museums only. This much smaller piece is like a perfect scaled down version of those famed fat ropes of Silver.

A very sweet thumbnail of crystalline Calcite shot through with wire Silver. From Kongsberg, this piece was in the collections of Ernie Schlichter and Larry White. Classic habit from this classic locale, the specimen displays well from several angles. Excellent dark patina on the wires adds a good contrast to the white Calcite
