Brazilianite - classic Northeastern USA
stock #AX-KR-032
Chandler Mills Mine, Newport
New Hampshire, United States
7.1 x 4.6 x 2.6 CM (cabinet)
price: $750
new year 2021

This locality produced some important phosphate minerals, including Brazilianite, long before it was first found and described from Brazil. While not like some of the best Brazilian pieces, this small mine produced what are probably the very best specimens that did not come from Brazil. This is one of the best pieces I have seen in many years from here. It is richly covered on both sides with well-formed crystals in several habits. The largest are over 1.6 CM and quite blocky, most being exposed well from the matrix. There is a second generation of tiny Brazilianite crystals between many of the large prisms, these are transparent and lustrous, the larger crystals are less glassy but translucent. In fine undamaged condition this can display from almost any angle. An excellent US classic that ranks among the best not from Brazil.

Smoky Quartz on Microcline (Amazonite)
stock #18.1-611
Government Pit, Albany, Carrol County
New Hampshire, United States
4.7 x 3.8 x 3 CM (miniature)
price: $240

A neat miniature hosting a fine Dauphine twin Quartz that has gem clear transparency. A New England classic, these are often compared with the well-known Colorado specimens but are quite different in person. the matrix is well crystallized Amazonite, with the blue green color most desirable from New Hampshire. Ex Ernie Schlichter collection, this was collected by him in the heyday of the Government pit digging. The luster is excellent and glassy on the Quartz and a pleasant matte finish on the Feldspars making a nice contrast. These are from an old stash and are not at all common on the market

Epidote - well-crystallized, with Actinolite
stock #16.1-284
Ore Hill mine, Warren, Grafton Co.
New Hampshire, United States
6.7 x 4.4 CM (cabinet)
price: $260
Winter 2016-17

Lustrous oil-green prisms are well presented on the contrasting Actinolite. From a less well known Northeastern US locality (the Ore Hill Mine, Warren, NH) Ex Bob Whitmore collection, the condition is excellent. Choice piece from an uncommon locale.

Fluorite - zoned crystals on Quartz
stock #AX-19-279
Redstone Quarry, Conway, Carroll County
New Hampshire, United States
8.1 x 7.4 x 4.4 CM (cabinet)
price: $1150
pre Tucson 2015 update

A classic old find from the White Mountains of New Hampshire, these rare "pocket" Fluorites are by far the most esthetic of these we have seen. 1960's vintage, this specimen is well-formed and has exceptional 3 dimensional presentation. The Fluorites reach 3.5 CM across and have fine and classic zoning with frosted faces that makes this locality distinctive. Aside from the famed Wise Mine in southwestern New Hampshire this defunct quarry is the next best New England Fluorite locale and this is perhaps the best example.

Brazilianite (older USA specimen)
stock #AX-10-1059
GE Smith Mine (Chandler's Mills) Newport, Sullivan County
New Hampshire, United States
5.8 x 3.9 CM (small cabinet/ large miniature)
price: $80
Spring 2014

Brazilianite crystals of any size from outside Brazil are rare. This New Hampshire USA specimen has a main crystal prism 1.3 CM across and many smaller in a cluster that is about 3.2 CM across. For a non Brazilian piece this is darned good specimen of this unusual phosphate. Collected in the late 60's these are not seen very often anymore.
