Carrollite
stock #AX-12-271
KOV open cut, Kamoto, Kolwezi
Katanga (Shaba), Democratic Republic of Congo (Zaire)
3.2 x 1.9 x 2.6 CM (small miniature/ large thumbnail (toenail))
price: $250
pre Tucson 2015 update

A quite fine, sharp, lustrous, undamaged and well positioned Carrollite crystal on matrix. Good Carrollites have gotten hard to find. The great discoveries in the Congo were the best by far worldwide, but no fine pieces have come out in years, even damaged examples are scarce. This specimen though small has fine form with nice growth patterns on the faces. The crystal is 1.4 CM across.

Cuprite (gem) on Plancheite
stock #12.1-023
Katanga, Central Area, Katanga Copper zone
Katanga (Shaba), Democratic Republic of Congo (Zaire)
4.2 x4.0 CM (miniature)
price: $440
Spring 2013

Sharp, gemmy crystal cluster perched on matrix. The largest crystal is 1.5 CM across these glow bright red when backlit, shown here in "normal" lighting. A quite esthetic and pretty small specimen of a classic find.

Dioptase
stock #8.1-295
Tantara Mine, Shinkolobwe, Kambove District
Katanga (Shaba), Democratic Republic of Congo (Zaire)
8.9 x 7 CM (cabinet)
price: $1250

An incredibly attractive mineral! Brilliant and lustrous crystals to 1.5CM with top color are packed in a vug that is rimmed with Dioptase and some blue Shattuckite. No damage to the display area and main crystals but there are a few tiny contacts at the outer edge of the piece that are not easilly seen. Really a killer for form and with bright, wet looking luster, this is a great value for the price. I have not seen anything of this quality in any recent lots from the DRC.
