Fluorite on Quartz
La Viesca Mine, Huergo, La Collada, Siero
6.6 x 4.1 x 3.8 CM (cabinet)
Late Summer 2018
A multi-color phantom Fluorite nicely perched on a sculptural matrix covered with druzy Quartz crystals. Excellent transparency and in fine condition, there are a few additional Fluorites on the specimen one of which is a slender, highly elongated cube. A classic European locale, the La Viesca Mine is famed for vibrant color varieties and general quality of its Fluorites. This one is a bit unusual but still has the look and style well known from this venerable locality.
Transparent cube, slightly elongated with beveled edges and light purple color. From the small digs at the Llamas site, this has both clear and lightly frosted faces, no damage but some contacts that can be seen through the cube from different angles. We are very impressed with the quality of these Fluorites, they are one of the best recent finds for the specie.
Fluorite- gem clear tabular habit
stock #18.1- 140
Cantera Llamas, Duyos, Caravia
3.7 x 2.7 x 1.6 CM (small miniature/ large thumbnail (toenail))
A super toenail sized Fluorite with a very fine flattened cube form and top clarity. From the small but important Llamas Quarry in Northern Spain, this is in pristine condition. The matrix is a mass of small crystals of Fluorite all showing the elongations and beveled edges that are classic for this area. Choice.
Fluorite- Elongated gemmy cubes
Cantera Llamas, Duyos, Caravia
3.7 x 2.4 x 2 CM (small miniature/ large thumbnail (toenail))
Pre Holiday 2017
A super clear, nearly colorless (with a very slight tinge of purple) cluster of two elongated cubes. The crystals are in epitaxial orientation as well. The Fluorites from Llamas are almost always beveled on the edges and often elongated, sometimes on two different axis as is this one. No matrix at all, the back and underside were contacted and recrystallized, and one old cleavage break has also had some regrowth. The facing side for display is almost air clear, sharp and lustrous. A very good example of this small but impressive locality.
Sharp Fluorite with classic form of complexly stepped cubes (distinctive of some Asturias specimens) is the base for a spray of flat Barite crystals. Choice display specimen that is better in person, the Fluorite has a pale violet-blue color and a few purple phantoms. In fine condition damagewise, the delicate Barite blades are surprisingly all intact. Looks good from all sides this has no point of attachment it is fully crystallized on all faces. A remarkable specimen from all angles.
A killer small miniature (toenail) with rich deep purple color and zoning in gem clear crystals. In fine condition as seen, this has the slightly beveled edges on the cubes that is distinctive of the Llamas Quarry and many Asturias area mines. This locale has never been very productive in terms of quantity but the quality - as in this specimen are world class.
From the 2016 find at the Llamas quarry this is a super clear and glassy Fluorite with sharp edge beveling on all sides. Nicely perched on the Calcite matrix with a few extra tiny Fluorites for extra sparkle. Impressive perfection even under 20x magnification there are no nicks or imperfections. In some photos what appears as an internal cloud or veil is only external microscopic cubic indents on one face. The interior is certainly colorless and absolutely clear. This small location only produces a few nice pieces in any year and rarly this level of perfection.
Fluorite with Barite
9.4 X 5.6 X 4.3 CM (cabinet)
Clear and very sharp zoned violet Fluorite cubes mixed with Barite blades. Classic Berbes type specimen in excellent condition. The bright luster and overall arrangement make this a much better than typical specimen. Better in person.
