Wulfenite on Mimetite
Ahumada Mine, Los Lamentos
9.8 x 7 x 4 CM (cabinet)
A very fine, attractive Bipyrimidal Wulfenite from Los Lamentos. This famed mine is best known for the tabular habit Wulfenites, but rarely this pointed habit was found, often on a dark green druze of tiny Mimetite crystals. Similar but noticably different from bipyrimidal Wulfs from Mina Ojuella. This specimen is esthetic, large, very colorful and in fine condition. A choice older Mexican classic Wulfenite.
A rare example of a Yaoganxian Cassiterite that is well crystallized. One of the most prolific mineral mines on Earth, Yaoganxian has produced many fine specimens of many species, but almost no Cassiterite. This small specimen is the best example we have seen. There are a few small Arsenopyrite crystals as well and this has some well defined twins. Compared with the world class Cassiterites from the famed Pingwu and Ximeng mines this is a modest piece, but for a Yaoganxian suite this is a killer.
A large and fine old Swiss Orthoclase crystal that is a well formed Manebach twin with fine edge striations. Several older labels included date this back to the 19th century. This Adularia is very large, translucent to transparent and with textbook perfect form. From just the right angle the fine striations make an interesting display of diffraction colors and shows a rich iridescence. Classic and impressive.
Inesite with Quartz, Hubetite etc.
Fengjiashan Mine (Daye Copper Mine), Edong District, Daye County, Huangs
7.2 x 7 x 5.2 CM (cabinet)
A fine Chinese Inesite from the Daye mine (Fenguashian Mine). Great esthetic with a very delicate, perfect standing spray of Inesite on top of a matrix of smaller Inesite, Quartz and Hubeite crystals. Excellent form and color, this has the richest red-orange hue that is most desirable. Not much has been found in recent years and little of that has good form or color. An impressive specimen for the mineral and for the locale.
A bright, striking Dioptase with sizable, perfect emerald green crystals on a etched matrix. From Altyn-Tyube, this is of exceptional quality for that location, and in fact is a choice specimen from anyplace else too. Sharp perfect crystals to 1.3 CM long are clustered in a sizable mass, a few micro tufts of Malachite are also note. Most Altyn-Tyube pieces have much less visual impact.
An incredible Swedish Rhodonite with excellent color, sharp crystals and fine pedigree. Ex University of Chicago collection with original label noting this was a donation by George English, likely well over 100 years ago. Several crystal lined vugs are on the matrix, the largest being 5.5 CM across. Some broken crystals are noted but not very evident without magnification, overall the condition is quite good especially given the age of this piece. From a small but noted old Iron mine, there are some tiny orange garnet crystals (likely Grossular), Diopside and an unidentified black mineral in the mix. We have not seen another with such good esthetics and the color is a rich red and not the typical pink.
Elbaite on Lepidolite
Santa Rosa Mine, Itambacuri
3.8 x 2.4 x 2 CM (miniature)
A colorful jumble of green Elbaite crystals offset by bits of purple Lepidolite. Very nice luster, moderate damage as seen on some crystals keeps this a very affordable specimen.
Corundum var. Sapphire
Mogok, Pyin-oo-Lwin District
2.5 x 1 x .9 CM (thumbnail)
A pair of Sapphire crystals are perched on each other showing perfect textbook form. This shows the classic habit with lightly frosted faces, translucent with some transparent gem areas. Almost colorless with a faint blue to yellow hue, this is complete, a floater and undamaged. A choice thumbnail with far better form than is typical.
