Scheelite on Quartz
stock #17.1-AXA-30-064
Skardu District
Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan
6.4 x 4.4 x 3.5 (cabinet)
price: $720
Pre Holiday 2017

A choice specimen with a single doubly terminated Scheelite nicely perched on contrasting clear Quartz crystals. The Scheelite is quite sharp, gemmy and richly colored. A few small Quartz at the edges are broken but the Scheelite and most Quartz are in perfect condition damage wise. This is from a find in Pakistan over 5 years ago that was briefly big mineral news. The find was small and the specimens have all disappeared. The Scheelte is very well presented- it sits well up on the matrix and has excellent contrast. Even better in person.
Legrandite w. Smithsonite etc.
stock #A-10-656
Mina Ojuela, Mapimi
Durango, Mexico
6.2 x 3.8 x 2.1 CM (cabinet)
price: $360
Pre Holiday 2017

Gem clear bright yellow crystals of the Legrandite in several vugs on a Gossan matrix. A sprinkling of slender white Smithsonite crystals are also in some of the vugs as well, along with micro crystals that I can not identify. Many Legrandite crystals are perfect, undamaged and highly lustrous, but this is not a specimen for perfectionists since there are also some broken crystals in a few areas. For such a delicate mineral the condition overall is incredible, especially since some crystals protrude outside the protective vugs. Displays nicely but could be trimmed to make top notch thumbnail(s) if desired. As a rule these older Legrandites are very expensive even with some damage, this one is quite reasonable.
Sphalerite and Pyrite
stock #A-10-908
Nanisivik Mine, Nanisivik, Baffin Island
Nunavut Territory, Canada
5.4 x 4.5 x 2.6 CM (cabinet)
price: $185
Pre Holiday 2017

A well formed specimen of both Sphalerite and Pyrite from a location not seen very often but has produced some fine things like this. Great three dimensional structure and separation of individual crystals, this is as good an example as I have ever seen from this remote locale. In very good condition, the pyrite are in several habits and forms while the Sphalerites reach up to 2 CM and have nice rounded faces. A really nice small cabinet piece.
Inesite with Barite
stock #A-14-326
N'chwaning Mine, Kalahari Fields, Kuruman
Northern Cape Province, South Africa
6.6 x 5.4 x 4.2 (cabinet)
price: $1150
Pre Holiday 2017

A dense mat of sharp pink to orange Inesite crystals covers most of a matrix which also hosts several clear Barite crystals. In excellent condition, from the classic NChwaning mine, this has fine luster and displays super well. The find of Inesite more than a decade ago has not been repeated, these rank as some of the best specimens ever found. This is a top percentile specimen, with strong display impact. Choice, and now very rare on the market.
Hematite, Henritermierite, Andradite and Hausmannite
stock #17.1-047
Wessels Mine, Hotazel, Northern Kalahari Mn Fields
Northern Cape Province, South Africa
8.5 X 5.5 X 2.2 CM (cabinet)
price: $1650
Pre Holiday 2017

A superb specimen from the esthetic point of view and a super rare example of the weird Garnet specie Henritermierite in tiny octahedral crystals. The bright red- orange Andradites garnets are also densely coating fine Hematite crystals with an esthetic contrast. In undamaged, perfect condition this displays impressively well. Fine Andradite coating Hematite was found in several pockets at Wessels years ago but not often so attractive or with the rare associate Henritermierite. A very fine specimen with several older labels from European collections.
Cobaltoan Calcite
stock #A-24-588
Aghbar Mine,Bou Azzer District, Tazenakht, Quarzazate Province
Ouarzazate Province, Morocco
6.6 x 4.5 x 4.1 CM (cabinet)
price: $700
Pre Holiday 2017

A very bright color rounded knob that is also covered with rounded crystals of rich magenta-purple Co Calcite. The back and botton are the attachment points where this was broken from the bedrock but the display surface (front, top and sides) is in perfect condition and very impressive. The individual crystals have a bright wet-look luster and many are also two toned making a very eyecatching display. This locale has now been flooded and we do not expect to see the produced again. A future classic with the unique color that makes the best of these so desirable. Choice.
Lazulite with Apatite and Wardite, Siderite, Quartz
stock #A-27-032
Rapid Creek, Dawson Mining District
Yukon Territory, Canada
9.3 x 4.9 x 3.6 CM (cabinet)
price: $390
Pre Holiday 2017

A sizable and well composed plate fully covered with lustrous crystals. The Rapid Creek find of Lazulite is certainly the most gemmy and attractive crystals ever found of the specie, and this is a fine example. Sharp, glassy individual indigo prisms reach 1 CM. All are in a complex cluster sprinkled with white and colorless Apatite and golden gemmy Siderites. Lots of sparkle and pop, this is well better and larger than average, a good value from a modern classic.
Stilbite on Prehnite
stock #15.1-495
Sadiola Mine
Kayes Region, Mali
7.3 x 3.5 x 3.3 CM (cabinet)
price: $400
Pre Holiday 2017

A slender fingerlike growth of green prehnite that is studded with pale yellow Stilbite crystals. In undamaged condition this displays well on all sides. This is from the discoveries in Mali that have produced a lot of good Epidote, but such very fine stilbite /Prehnite specimens are far more rare. This was selected from several hundred specimens as an especially esthetic piece.
