Sphalerite -gemmy crystals
stock #18.AX-489
ZCA Corp./Hyatt Mine, Talcville, St. Lawrence Co.
New York, United States
2.4 x 2 x 1.8 (thumbnail)
price: $240
Late Summer 2018

A super thumbnail of fine gem clear Sphalerites that came from Talcville decades ago. in excellent condition, this looks great from several angles and the luster is brilliant. A more modern USA classic these do not turn up very often. The Sphalerites stand out well from the dark matrix making a nice three-dimensional presentation.
Adamite -Manganoan
stock #18-AX-11-043
Mina Ojuela, Mapimi
Durango, Mexico
2.7 x 2 x 19 CM (thumbnail)
price: $475
Late Summer 2018

An especially esthetic, sharp flowerlike burst of Manganoan (purple-magenta tipped) Adamite. This cluster rests on a solid gossan matrix like an icecream cone, and has excellent proportions. Fine luster and condition, in person a little more purple color is noted. Ojuela produced only a few of these that looked this good, a quality, competitive thumbnail. Collected pre 2000, perhaps much older.
Spodumene Var. Hiddenite -Classic
stock #15.1-702
Stony Point, Alexander County
North Carolina, United States
2.4 x 1.7 x .5 CM (thumbnail)
price: $2400
Late Summer 2018

A superb, intense color USA Hiddenite, from the collection of Warren Johannson which he obtained in trade from Harvard in in 1934. Unlike the typical slender crystals, this is a wide and stout example, a complete floater with the top quality brilliant "Emerald" green color, weighing 17.7 ct. Complete all around, complexly etched and doubly terminated, this is a killer thumbnail that is hard to fully appreciate in photos. The Alexander County NC Hiddenites are of course the "real" thing, unlike green Spodumene from Pakistan or Brazil these do not fade, are not irradiated and can have this rare unique color unlike any others. Gem clear and lustrous, a true Hiddenite (the town of Hiddenite is about 6 KM from Stony point, the zone where this was first discovered in 1879). Classic specimen from a classic locale of a rare quality.
Fluorite on Microcline
stock #17.1-526
Hohenstein Massif, Omaruru District
Erongo Region, Namibia
6.8 x 5.8 x 3.1 CM (cabinet)
price: $320
Late Summer 2018

A sculptural matrix hosts well exposed octahedral Fluorites from Erongo. The Fluorites are a dark green and quite translucent (they glow with a good backlight, which also reveals a dark purple core) A different sort of look and esthetic presentation, this display well from any angle. No visible damage to the Fluorites.
Brookite on Quartz
stock #18.1-454
Moses Hill, Magnet Cove, Hot Spring Co.
Arkansas, United States
3.1 x 1.6 x 1.2 CM (thumbnail)
price: $75
Late Summer 2018

Sizable Brookites scattered on a Quartz crystal from the classic locality of Magnet Cove. Choice older piece with several habits of Brookite some of which are very lustrous in person. The Quartz is doubly terminated and is the usual milky to smoky type with some signs of corrosion that is distinctive to this locale. In excellent undamaged condition.
Albite with Fluorapatite
stock #18.1-447
La Marina Mine, Pauna
Boyaca, Colombia
7.2 x 4.8 x 3.3 CM (cabinet)
price: $80
Late Summer 2018

Albite in sharp, glassy, lustrous and mostly transparent are the majority of the specimen. There are a few scattered pink Apatites, the largest about 1 CM, which are also glassy, transparent and in fine condition. From the great find at La Marina Mine, that became famed for the pink Apatites and later for some of the worlds best Euclase. The Albites were sometimes matrix for both of these species and I think under appreciated on their own, they are superb and showy Feldspars. A choice specimen that is well crystalized on both sides and shows off the Albite more than the Apatite.
Fluorite -unusual form, classic locale
stock #18.1-448
Mex-Tex mine, Bingham, Hansonburg District, Soccoro County
New Mexico, United States
6.3 x 6.1 x 2.1 CM (cabinet)
price: $360
Late Summer 2018

A rounded highly etched crystal mass that seems to have grown on a flat surface (Barite?) and later come off. Translucent to transparent, this is a multi hued piece and multi stepped as well, this has tones of green, purple and blue. Ex Hitchings collection, obtained in 1967. An unusual piece, the front display surface is finely detailed and remarkably in excellent condition. The back is cleaved and in part re-crystalized, none of which is visible on display. A very attractive Fluorite, better in person, this is not typical for the locale, there is also a dusting of small Quartz crystals that add some sparkle. With any backlighting this glows a good green to purple.
Stibnite and Calcite

Xikhuahshan Antimony mine
Hunan Province, China
4.3 x 3.4 x 2.3 CM (miniature)
price: $80
Late Summer 2018

A delicate and complex miniature specimen of transparent, zoned Calcite scalenohedra mixed with metallic Stibnites. In fine condition this is a very three dimensional piece. From the prolific finds of 2008-9, an affordable Calcite/Stibnite combo that is complex and very detailed.
