Azurite rosette form with Malachite- historic specimen
stock #A-35-458-(397)
Chessy Copper Mine, Chessy-les-Mines, Villefranche, Rhone
Rhone-Alpes, France
5.1 x 3.1 x 3 CM (cabinet)
price: $560
Pre Holiday 2017

A remarkable classic with documented history. A very old Chessy Les Mines piece, from the collection of Wallace Gould Levison, which he obtained in 1865 from mineral dealer Chas. S. Stone of Brooklyn NY. We include for the buyer a photocopy of the handwritten journal entry for this piece. Aside from the early vintage, the specimen is quite fine in its own right, well crystallized with rare electric blue color and clustered bladed rosettes. While not critically perfect, The condition is impressively good despite a century and half of handling. Most of what at a glance look like bruises are in fact undamaged. In 1865, 15 years before Bisbee began to produce these were treasured as the worlds best Azurites. This is still a nice specimen with very good luster and form.
Wulfenite on Duftite
stock #17.1-336
Tsumeb
Otavi-Bergland district, Oshikoto, Namibia
3.2 x 2.2 x 2.1 CM (thumbnail)
price: $330
Pre Holiday 2017

A superb, sharp yellow Wulfenite crystal perched on a delicate matrix of bright green Duftite balls and related minerals. Great combination with wonderful color and in exceptional condition. With 20 x magnification I can just see one very microscopic bruise point that is impossible to find otherwise. Choice display specimen that has fine form and color contrast.
Apatite (Fluorapatite) with Byssolite inclusions
stock #17.1-683
Ganadao (Gandahab) Mohmand Agency
FATA Federally Administered Tribal Areas, Pakistan
4 x 2.7 x 1.2 CM (miniature)
price: $600
Pre Holiday 2017

A complete, sharp transparent alpine style Apatite prism loaded with Byssolite needles that give the transparent colorless crystal a deep green hue. Very similar in form and look to Austrian and other European cleft Apatite. There is no damage and the whole is a floater with no point of attachment. Some of the edges show very complex multi faced crystallization and a few conjoined smaller crystals.
Quartz (Herkimer Diamond- Black stem scepter)
stock #17.1-684
Treasure Mountain, Little Falls, Herkimer County
New York, United States
3.6 x 1.8 x 1.3 (small miniature/ large thumbnail (toenail))
price: $340
Pre Holiday 2017

A Northeastern US mineral legend, the black stemmed scepters of Herkimer are quite rare and despite hundreds of diggers toiling in the hard Dolomite only a few are found every few years. From a recent exceptional pocket this is a perfect example with no damage (extra rare) and doubly terminated (crudely) which is almost unheard of. The black stem is partly deep smoky brown with a few tiny areas of transparency. The top is sharp and glassy and also has dark inclusions some of which are brightly fluorescent. A fine small example of this most uncommon of Herkimer Diamond Quartz!
