Barite (Barytes) - dark blue
stock #18.1-431
Paga mine, Cartersville District, Bartow County
Georgia, United States
4.8 x 3.1 x 2.2 CM (miniature)
price: $220
Late Summer 2018

A deep blue chisel-tip Barite from the now classic Georgia (USA) locale at Cartersville. The deep "royal blue" color was the most desirable but very uncommon at this locale. This is a choice miniature example in fine condition, with good transparency, luster and very sharp terminations. Not often available anymore, a good Georgia Blue is a welcome addition for any suite of Barite and especially for a Southeastern USA collection.
Rutile
stock #18-AX-7-187 (409)
Graves Mt., Lincoln Co.
Georgia, United States
4.3 x 3.2 x 2.6 CM (miniature)
price: $180
Late Summer 2018

This is the termination section of a complex Rutile crystal that shows twinning. From the famed Graves Mountain locale, which is among the few localities worldwide that produced such large, blocky habit Rutile. Textbook form, undamaged and quite sharp for one of these, the color is a very dark red brown. No damage on any of the display sides, cleaved on the base (bottom) only.
Fluorite on Quartz
stock #18-AX-20-230
La Viesca Mine, Huergo, La Collada, Siero
Asturias, Spain
6.6 x 4.1 x 3.8 CM (cabinet)
price: $260
Late Summer 2018

A multi-color phantom Fluorite nicely perched on a sculptural matrix covered with druzy Quartz crystals. Excellent transparency and in fine condition, there are a few additional Fluorites on the specimen one of which is a slender, highly elongated cube. A classic European locale, the La Viesca Mine is famed for vibrant color varieties and general quality of its Fluorites. This one is a bit unusual but still has the look and style well known from this venerable locality.
Descloizite -unusual form, iridescent
stock #18.AX-12-055
Berg Aukus, Grootfontein District
Otjozondjupa Region, Namibia
5.5 x 4.3 x 2.6 CM (small cabinet/ large miniature)
price: $190
Late Summer 2018

There are many different habits seen in the Descoizites of Berg Aukus, which is certainly the premier locale for this mineral. This specimen has a rounded series of crystal aggregates that present curved faces and a colorful patina. The iridescence is most striking and at first glance this looks like a fine Chalcocite. Undamaged, pristine condition, and crystalized all around, the underside is a hollow cup holding more traditional forms of small bright red Descloizite crystals. We have handled and seen many fine Berg Aukus specimens but this piece is unique in my experience. Ex William Hladysz collection, his catalog notes "very rare habit, unlike any other".
Chrysocolla - drusy Quartz overgrowths
stock #18.1-433
Inca De Oro, Chanaral
Atacama Region, Chile
4 x 2.6 x 1.7 CM (miniature)
price: $280
Late Summer 2018

Super bright color and sparkling luster, this has a tiny bit of Malachite remaining but most all is pure Chrysocolla. The Chrysocolla shows the elongated forms of primary Malachite crystals which it has replaced. The brilliant blue fingers on this piece are radiating outward from a Gossan matrix and are fully encased with clear, sparkling Quartz. Fine and delicate, in excellent condition and with strong display impact.
Barite- perfect rosettes
stock #18.1-434
La Union Mine, Sierra de Cartagena
Murcia, Spain
5.8 x 3.3 x 2.6 CM (cabinet)
price: $380
Late Summer 2018

Remarkable, perfect and esthetic. Free standing rosettes of Barite crystals on a rough matrix arranged in a line. This locale has produced a lot of nice Barite specimens but very few have anything close to this elegant perfection. Under 40X magnification there are no chips or damage seen, which is incredible with such a delicate mineral in thin bladed crystals. Better in person too.
SOLD Kutnohorite
stock #SOLD 18-AX-14-325
Wessels Mine, Hotazel, Northern Kalahari Mn Fields
Northern Areas, South Africa
8.8 x 4.7 x 2.8 CM (cabinet)
price: $0
Late Summer 2018

Great color and fine form, a choice cabinet specimen of sculptural Kutnohorite. The Kalahari Manganese field has produced the very best specimens of this specie and this is a very choice piece with three dimensional form. No damage and nearly pure Kutnohorite there is just a tiny bit of adhering matrix on the back side. Several forms of the mineral are well presented and the whole displays well. Quality color and form like this is almost never available now, this specimen is from finds a few years ago.
Cassiterite -huge for locale, with Ferberite, Arsenopyrite, Chalcopyrite, Quartz, Muscovite, Stannite, Fluorite etc.
stock #18-AX-29-046
Yaogangxian Mine, Yizhang County
Hunan Province, China
4.8 x 4 x 2.8 CM (miniature)
price: $1600
Late Summer 2018

The very best Yaogangxian Cassiterite I have ever seen, with the largest crystals as well. An excellent multi-specie piece mostly composed of superb Cassiterite. This locale has produced thousands of excellent mineral specimens but Cassiterite is very rare from this famed locale. Sharp lustrous crystals to almost 3 CM are arranged in a radiating cluster on a very complex matrix. I count at least 7 mineral species on this miniature, but the Cassiterite is clearly dominant and is in fine condition as well. A superb modern classic and a very important Yaoganxian specimen.
