Aurichalcite with Hemimorphite
79 Mine, Hayden, Banner District, Gila County
4.7 x 4 x 3.8 CM (miniature)
An outstanding Copper specondary specimen, a miniature Aurichalcite from the famed 79 Mine. The condition is exceptional and the display impact is also top notch. Some of the best Aurichalcites ever found came from this small mine years ago but are not often available in this quality. In incredible undamaged condition, remarkable for such a delicate specimen. A few small clear balls of radiating Hemimorphites add a nice contrast too. Brilliant color and luster give this a great display impact much bigger than the size. Really far better in person.
Epidote -classic Italian
2.2 x 2.2 x 1.8 CM (thumbnail)
Bright lustrous Epidote crystals in a cluster that are topped with a larger compound prism on the top. Largest prisms reach 1 CM which is very large for this locale. The crystals are all gemmy and the largest are in fine condition, a 20X magnification finds some very tiny chips but perfect by naked eye. The Bellacombe area is one of the great classic locales best known for great Garnets, Vesuvianites etc. The Epidote here can be a bright yellow color when small and grades to a honey brown as they get larger. This is a nice example that is well above average for size and esthetics.
Euclase - Gem crystals with blue zoning
stock #18.1- 745
Alto de Giz Pegmatite, Equador, Borborema mineral province
Rio Grande do Norte,
2.4 x 1.8 x 1.5 CM (thumbnail)
Gemmy sharp and lustrous cluster of transparent, colorless Euclase crystals showing the deep indigo blue zone inside. An older specimen from finds years ago at Alto Do Giz. The crystals are doubly terminated, textbook sharp and nicely striated. In very good condition though some cleaving is noted on the backside but this presents very well and shows no damage on display. A nice clear Brazilian Euclase with the most desirable color inclusion.
Analcime on Serandite
Mont Saint-Hilaire, Monteregie
2.7 x 1.7 x 1.1 (thumbnail)
Classic Mt. St. Hillaire specimen of a cream Analcime crystal nicely perched on a salmon color Serandite cluster. The Serandite is broken at one end but terminated (crudely) on the other. As is typical on specimens from this locale, there are other species present as micro crystals too, a Polylithonite rosette and a small cluster of Rhodochrosite. Nice combo thumbnail.
Orpiment on Calcite crystal
Shimen (Jiepiayu) Mine, Shimen County, Changde Prefecture
3.1 x 2..1 x 1.9 CM (thumbnail)
From the Chinese finds made more than 15 years ago at Shimen. This is a fine thumbnail sized Gemmy Calcite crystal coated on several sides with slender crystals of Orpiment in orange and yellow colors. These were big news when first discovered and the supply dried up very quickly. There were very few good thumbnails since most of the Calcites were much larger. In fine condition the specimen is better in person and now a modern classic. We obtained this piece in China at that time and sold it shortly after. Glad to see it back and have one to offer today.
A small miniature / toenail sized cluster of classic Manganite crystals with no matrix in fine condition. Good Ilfeld Manganites have always been considered the best of the specie and are usually very expensive in larger sizes. This smaller piece is in undamaged condition and shows the crystal form that is so distinctive from this classic old Harz Mountains locality.
SOLD Chalcedony / Amethyst
stock #SOLD 18.1-742
Mamuju area, Sulawesi Barat province
3.9 x 2.4 x 1.6 CM (miniature)
A fine miniature specimen of this now famous material from Indonesia. The best of these new Agates are esthetic, richly colored, have bright luster, no staining, and are very 3 dimensional like this piece. The find has been large enough that the cost of a really good example is now quite affordable. We are told that the area producing the best quality is now more or less exhausted and so these will soon be more scarce. This piece was purchased from a small lot of selected lapidary grade pieces. We are pleased it can now survive in its natural form.
Mahalza, Betafo District, Vakinankaratra
6 x 5.1 x 3 CM (cabinet)
A well-exposed Rhodizite crystal stands on a complex Pegmatitic matrix. The Rhodizite has some gemmy areas and is fairly lustrous, this is a very large sized crystal at 2.8 CM in diameter. Close exam shows a crack and chipping mostly on the backside of the Rhodizite. Still for the size of this crystal it is in quite good condition which is uncommon. Ex. William Hladysz collection and Carter Rich, from the great find over 15 years ago, these were by far the worlds best crystals of this quite rare mineral.
