Kinoite with Apophyllite
stock #17.1-271
Christmas Mine, Dripping Springs Mountains, Gila County
Arizona, United States
6.5 x 5.5 x 3.6 CM (cabinet)
price: $180

Royal blue Kinoite like this is best known in specimens from the Christmas Mine, it is rather rare elsewhere and almost only known as micro specimens. This piece is a very choice example with a good, dense coverage of brilliant blue crystals associated with clear colorless cubes of Apophyllite. This Calcium Copper Silicate is never found in large crystals but sometimes the clusters are rich enough (like on this piece) to be eyecatching from a distance. Far better than average, there are several separate vugs on different sides of this matrix and the crystals under magnification are especially brilliant.
Covellite with Pyrite
stock #0195-JM-1294
Leonard Mine, Butte, Silver Bow County
Montana, United States
5.4 x 4.3 x 3.2 CM (cabinet)
price: $750

Several free standing crystals of Covellite on different sides of the Pyrite matrix are showing dark blue patina. From the remarkable collection of John Marshall who worked at the mine from 1950 to 51. John worked as a miner despite his Harvard education he enjoyed the direct contact and collecting during his lunch breaks. His hand painted mark is on the specimen #1294. The crystals are quite lustrous and in rather good but not perfect condition as is typical for this delicate mineral, far better than average. The Pyrite is in both small octahedrons and other more complex pyritohedrons. The Covellites of Butte have always been prized and are hard to find with any quality and often incredibly costly when they are exceptional A good value.
HOLD Quartz with Hematite inclusions
stock #HOLD 18.1-563
Orange River, Warmbad, Karasburg Dist.
Karas Region, Namibia
5.8 x 3.6 x 3.3 CM (cabinet)
price: $390

Clear Quartz with intense red to bright orange phantoms caused by Hematite inclusions. These finds at Orange river (aptly named) have been made infrequently over the past couple of decades. This is an especially choice matrix piece in fine condition and with unusually strong color. The terminations are sharp and undamaged which is also quite rare. Esthetic small cabinet size that could be trimmed to a miniature if desired but look great to us as is.
Fluorite, Galena, Quartz, Brochantite and Anglesite
stock #19.1-996
Blanchard Mine, Bingham, Hansonburg District, Socorro County
New Mexico, United States
8.3 x 7 x 2.0 CM (cabinet)
price: $750

Old specimen collected by Les Hitchings in the early 1960 period. In remarkable condition a plate of matrix with very three dimensional and well positioned highlights. The Galena is especially choice, sharp and shows the typical alteration to Anglesite on the surface in unusually sharp well defined crystals. These are also Fluorescent bright yellow. The Fluorite shows well the stepped growth structure that is distinctive from this locale which is nearly spherical. In several spots on the matrix are tiny balls of Rosasite that while not very large add a touch of color on close exam. Great esthetics, a classic locale and in excellent condition.
SOLD Rhodochrosite -classic locale
stock #SOLD 13.1-242
Emma Mine, Butte, Butte District, Silver Bow County
Montana, United States
2.6 x 2.4 x 1.9 CM (thumbnail)
price: $0

From Butte during the glory days came a lot of Rhodochrosite best known from the Emma Mine. This thumbnail is especially choice with a well formed main rhomb that is unusually distinct and isolated. The matrix is composed of sharp smaller Rhombs and has a few tiny Quartz as accents. The color is quite a bit deeper pink than usual and the condition is excellent. Displays well from several angles. One of the worlds great mineral locales, Butte produced incredible Sulfide minerals many of which are not very colorful. The Rhodos add a bright exception to this.
Amethyst and Quartz ps after Calcite
stock #12.1-105
Karur
Tamil Nadu, India
8.8 x 6.4 x 4.9 CM (cabinet)
price: $600

A remarkable and very esthetic specimen from the amazing Karur finds in Tamil Nadu. A perfect rosette of transparent Amethysts sits on a contrasting matrix. The matrix also hosts a sharp scalenohedral crystal that was originally a Calcite but is now pseudomorphed to Quartz. The color and condition are both top notch, there is no damage and the color is very strong in person. The matrix is also quite impressive under magnification there are many small included greenish- yellow Quartz and white Calcites that contrast with the dark Clinoclore and Micas. Almost every year a few choice specimens trickle out of Karur, they can be incredible and are unlike any Amethyst from any other locality. Better in person too.
Adamite
stock #17.1-616
Mina Ojuela, Mapimi
Durango, Mexico
4.3 x 3.2 x 1.5 CM (miniature)
price: $130

Bright lemon-green color Adamite crystals with grading to colorless near their base. These are sharp and lustrous with very good relief from the matrix. Ojuela has produced vast numbers of Adamites in many hues and habits, these are modern classiocs and quite affordable compared to the mineral from anyplace else. A sparkling miniature of well developed crystals and choice, less common color.
