Tanzanite (very fine, zoned blue-green Zoisite)
stock #A 148-104
Merelani, Umba Valley, Lelatama Mountains, Arusha Region
Arusha Region, Tanzania
5.3 x 1.5 x 1 CM (small cabinet/ large miniature)
price: $2250

An very impressive, sizable and sharp crystal with great luster and strong color change wit the added feature of a well defined internal color zone stripe that is very rare. Displays great with good clarity, only one very tiny edge chip is noted that is almost invisible to the naked eye, and not visible from the best display side. The most impressive feature is the distinct color changes as this is rotated, The color is an intense blue, then a zoned green, rich purple and from along the c axis a strong red. With good backlight a small yellow zone is also seen. With the costs of even average gem Tanzanite being incredibly high, this is an ecxeptional piece at a great price.
Herderite (hydroxl Herderite) on Microcline
stock #Alec-14-368
Shigar, Skardu District, Baltistan
Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan
5.5 x 4x 3.5 CM (cabinet)
price: $900

From the late 1990s vintage finds, a very distinctive, doubly terminated gem crystal perched on a crystal section of Microcline. The 3 CM long Herderite is in perfect condition and shows textbook form. Excellent esthetics and a slight color change from blueish to greenish in different light sources. A far better than average piece, and there has been nothing new on the market for several years.
Scheelite on Quartz
stock #2.1-278
Tong Wha Mine, Neungam-ri, Angseong-myeon, Chunglu
Chungcheongbukdo, South Korea
5 x 2.7 x 2.3 CM (miniature)
price: $280

A well presented, sharp, shiny Scheelite is perfectly perched on the side of a quartz crystal. Good Korean Scheelites were never very common 30 years ago and now are seen when older collections are dispursed. The Scheelite (1.7 CM) is translucent and has a few areas of selected etching. Overall in good shape, one tiny area of chipping can be found with magnification. A nice, esthetic and affordable old Korean piece.
Spodumene (bi-color pink and green)
stock #116-JM-1227

Konar (Kunar) Province, Afghanistan
6.8 x 3.5 CM (cabinet)
price: $380

A very clean pink to green Kunzite (spodumene) with great form and good pastel colors. Ex John Marshall Collection (with labels). From finds in the early 80's in Kunar this age ensures that the colors you see are stable and will not fade. Bi colored Spods are rare and they are clearly not irradiated or faked either. In good condition and mostly gem clear inside, a good gem crystal that will not break the bank.
Hemimorphite (unusual form, old mystery locale)
stock #AC-375
Cuvella Mine
Nevada, United States
6.4 x 2.2 CM (cabinet)
price: $350

A very unusual, old specimen with a slender stalactitic form and mysterious provenance. The Schortmann's minerals label that comes with this specimen dates it to the early years of their world famous dealership, about 1940. At that time a $5.00 specimen was a very costly piece. This period was the beginning of their historic association with Ed Over and Arthur Montgomery. The locale listed is the Cuvella mine in Nevada, which is not a "known" location. Whats more, the form of this piece is not like any I have seen from any locale worldwide, much less Nevada. It is 360 degrees crystallized with a central hole, micros of Barite and zoned dark inclusions, it looks almost violet in some lighting. In excellent condition with no eye visible damage, an interesting and mysterious piece. The stock number is typical of pieces that they obtained from older institutional collections both in the US and in Europe, but the meaning of the code is lost. Whatever the locale this is a fine and interesting specimen!
Amethyst (classic Guerrero candlepin form)
stock #12.1-261
Amatitlan, Municipio de Zumpango del Rio
Guerrero, Mexico
11.6 x 3.6 CM (cabinet)
price: $1400

A very good, older specimen with the distinctive form that makes the Guerrero Amethyst world famous. From the "golden years" in the 1930's vintage mining, This is a single crystal with a few side crystals attached presenting the "fat belly" form with good (slightly better than average) color. The phantoms are also quite distinct and are more impressive in person reaching a deep grape purple color at the core. Some typical minor bruises are seen in the photos, and some side crystals have chipping, but these can be hidden by rotating the piece. I would rate this specimen as well above average for color, size and form but not a "super-top" piece (which in this size can be a 20-30K specimen!). A good value for a fine addition for any Mexican collection or quartz suite
Galena with Chalcopyrite
stock #13.1-230
Black Cloud Mine, Iowa Gulch, Leadville
Colorado, United States
4.4 x 3.5 CM (miniature)
price: $175

Classic older Colorado Galena with well formed, complex cube crystals and a good contrast with the golden Chalcopyrite. Ex Ernie Schlichter, this is in very good condition (no eye visible damages) and quite 3 dimensional, a nice miniature with good luster.
Cobaltoan Calcite (scalenohedral and hollow crystals)
stock #12.1-254
Bou Azzer District, Tazenakht, Ouarzazate Province
Souss Massa Draa Region, Morocco
6 x 4.8 CM (cabinet)
price: $850
Spring 2014

A really esthetic example from the great find of 2012 which was the best in nearly 20 years. This find had many average pieces but very few that were fine. These are now unavailable in this quality and condition. Great color and fine form, these scalenohedral crystals are in some cases hoppered or hollowed cavernous spikes in a radiating cluster. Some damage is noted mostly on the outer edges, but the central main display area is pristine.
