Well formed bi-colored green Tourmaline exposed on matrix from THE classic US locale for Elbaites, Mt. Mica. Collected in the sixties by Les Hitchings, the large Elbaite is in perfect condition. The Matrix is a typical mix of Quartz crystals with Cooketite and feldspar with several partial Elbaites and one small Tourmaline is still fully encased in the Cookeite and could be exposed if so desired. Since 1821 this locality has been the most famed US Gem pegmatite.
Milpillas Mine, Cuitaca, Municipio de Santa Cruz
3.8 x 2.8 x 2 CM (miniature)
Undamaged, bright luster, intense deep blue and esthetic, a fine small miniature from Milpillas. The crystals on this piece show both classic sharp prismatic faces and the large curved faces that have a more satin luster. Recognized as one of the greatest mineral finds of all time, this mine produced many good specimens, so the prices have been relatively low for this sort of quality. Better in person and a great value for the most desirable "electric" color.
Mina Ojuela, Mapimi
4.3 x 3.7 x 2 CM (miniature)
Strong esthetic miniature with bright color and luster. From the pockets found in 2013, this find produced a small number of these brilliant wet-look Mimetites. Much like the famous San Pedro de Coralitos Mimetites (but from Mina Ojuela) these had a little brighter color and a more elongated habit. Choice, eye-catching and displays well from all sides. In pristine undamaged condition and a good value, these have not been found since 2013.
A native Silver crystal tree with contrasting white Calcite scattered on the branches. Classic specimen from the famed White Pine Mine of Michigan. The crystals are typically crude but distinct enough to see the basic forms well. No damage and displays well, a choice miniature with character.
Fluorites that are bright green, transparent and with complex form are perched on ball like masses of Muscovite. From a find in 2017 on Hohenstein Massif in Namibia, this has a very different form from previous discoveries. The so called jellybean green habit is well displayed on this piece and the Fluorites are undamaged. A close exam shows some of the Schorl is translucent in needle like crystals on the display face. Very three dimensional and a strong cabinet sized display piece.
Very fine Erythrite crystals in sharp relief from a matrix of Skutterudite also with several distinct crystals. Very good color and luster, in fine condition and an unusually clear association of these Cobalt minerals in crystallized form. We rarely see these two species together in fine crystals. Choice.
Sharp yellow crystals in clusters on contrasting fingers of Gossan matrix. Ex Marty Zinn collection, a very three dimensional specimen with glassy prisms standing on end above the reddish matrix. several fan aggregates are present as well as isolated single crystals with transparent tips. In excellent undamaged condition.
A large, somewhat crude red Cuprite octahedron (3.5 CM) with some unusual growth features and complex faces sets nicely on Malachite matrix. Two of the faces have odd holes (one circular, one triangular) and several parts of the crystal show stepped regrowths. Great color contrast, with backlighting the Cuprite glows a brilliant cherry red. We have not backlit the specimen as that can be misleading, but the cuprite is fully translucent and seems to be facet grade clear red inside. Ex John Marshall collection (his label and card are included) acquired in 1990 from G. Gauthier.
