Ordering, paying, and shipping information
 

ORDERING
Please call us or send us an e-mail if you have questions or want to see additional photos of a piece. You can order by phone, mail or from the website using the paypal system. We guarantee all our stock is as described and we make every effort to indicate any damage that may exist. We also strive to be accurate in our identification, location data and photographs. You may see mineral colors vary greatly on different monitors, so to help keep consistency we have begun matching colors to Apple I-pads, which are all calibrated exactly the same. We offer full return privilege and immediate refund of purchase price for minerals returned in the same condition as sent. Since we are often away, we make every effort to fill your orders as quickly as possible, but delays are certainly possible, if we are out at a show or otherwise unable to ship quickly we will notify you of the expected ship date by email. Please contact us directly if you have a time constraint.


PAYMENT

Checks are fine but we will wait for them to clear (usually 3 days) if we don’t know you yet. Mastercard, Visa and American Express are all accepted. Our website works through Paypal which is fast, secure, and also allows you several other options for payment. Shipping costs will be added to your total in the checkout. We do not charge excess fees for handling, only the real costs of packaging and shipping! Insurance is optional, but recommended and required for those few extra delicate items. Please make checks payable to Kevin Downey. Massachusetts residents please add 6.25% sales tax.

SHIPPING
Shipment default on the website is US Postal Service, for both domestic and international with tracking and no insurance. In the web checkout via Paypal at the end you have an option for a more expensive and faster service that will also include insurance. We package carefully but strongly recommend insurance especially for items over 500.00, not selecting insurance is OK but it is at your risk. Please note for international shipping the default uses a registered mail, it does not include insurance but that can be added by selecting the faster shipping method at the end of the checkout pages. Customs valuations must match the insured values. If you are purchasing several specimens or have special needs please contact us, we will estimate the shipping costs without any “handling fees” and can refund any overage. For some very delicate minerals we are happy to offer in-person pickup, either in Florence, MA, or at a show. If that is not possible we must require shipping insurance for those few ultra sensitive items.


SPECIAL REQUESTS
We do welcome visitors by advance appointment, however, since we do travel a lot we do not have anything close to regular business hours! Our current stock of over 30,000 specimens is one of the largest in the region and well worth seeing. Please let us know your collecting interests, we try very hard to make good matches for serious collectors. We have an inventory of fine minerals, rarities, oddities and things that are just not available anyplace else.
